Out of the Blue Diamond Mine outside of Vegas right? I've done a few of those. If it's going to the same place down in California that I've been to he'll get to drop the trailer on a platform that tips the trailer way up into the air to "unload" the gypsum. Then he'll get to go get a trailer wash out because it's impossible to sweep a trailer clean enough to pass through security for his next load after having that stuff in there.

Yeah I agree that they should have gone over it in more detail. However, I want to clarify that I've never drained more than a little out of that housing, and when I have drained it, it's usually water with a slight diesel color/smell. I've never seen it that full, or with straight fuel instead of water. I also knew about the 3/4 the way up the filter thing too - that's part of why I called SEM. And it didn't become hard to start until that shop started tinkering with things.

I do thank you for the explanation though. I'm definitely not mechanically inclined (as previously mentioned), and nobody else (the shop or SEM) really bothered to explain anything to me.

The only other "loose" material I've hauled was shredded recycled metal from a place that takes firearms, humvees, and equipment that the military gets rid of and then sells to Mexico. The only place I've ever been that actually has armed guards.

I was talking with the guys working there and it turns out that quit often they destroy brand new hmmwv's, they don't know why but that get sent there, shredded, and then sold as scrap metal to other countries.

The water separator is in the bottom of the housing, the top clear part with the filter inside is just a fuel filter. When a brand new filter is installed you won't see any fuel in the glass. As the filter clogs the fuel level will rise until it gets time to change it. You should never see water through the glass. Its either air, or air and fuel.

It's not a bad idea to change the filters (fuel and fuel/water separator) at regular intervals even if it looks good. I usually change mine every 3rd PM which is about 45k miles.

My guess would be bad fuel that has clogged the filter which has then cascaded into a slew of.other problems.

I'm very proud of that pun by the way.

So here's the most recent update - My DBL just called and told me that a loaner truck is going to be available at the Louisville yard for me to use in about an hour. I'm gonna take my truck to the shop, have my wife drive me back to the yard, and then get in the loaner truck and go. I hope they can get my truck fixed this week so I can have it next week. Not sure how I feel about using someone else's truck...

    It was a great pun!

Well, regulatory has my paper logs but they are still using my electronic logs for my record because the electronic logs show more drive time then my paper logs. Mostly due to the fact that paper logs go by 15 minute increments and electronic logs are down to the minute. Lets say I drove 2 hours and stopped to take a leak in a dirt pull out (was on US95 south through Nevada, a lot of nothing) I'm stopped for 7 minutes but log 15 off duty on my paper logs. I keep the truck running when I'm stopped for a short amount of time, electronic logs keep you in driving for 5 minutes after stopping, the 2 remaining minutes while I was stopped will kick me into on duty but will switch back to driving before I have 5 full minutes of on duty. That's 15 minutes of driving showing on my elogs but not my paper logs, which adds up to quit a bit over 4 days.

So does that mean you still have HOS violations that prevent you from switching over?

I haven't read too far here but if you are financing through sfi DO NOT do a no money down deal or lease purchase the costs are too high too be able to maintain a decent life style. The whole idea is ti make more money not drive around in a new truck broke all the time. SNI will require you to have a maint fund and an escrow type ( I forget what they called it ) acct Even with a new truck I was an o/o with them for about 2 years and moved on but when I inquired they tried very hard to get me to do no money down, have somebody you trust go over the deal and make sure it's in YOUR best interest and not SNI
