But if the wheels aren't rolling, you aren't getting paid. That's why a lot of drivers are reluctant to get repairs.

True as well. I’ve admitted that during my last few years there as a L/O, I was more selective as to what needed repairs I would have done. OOS stuff, sure...no question. But the upper marker lights of the world generally waited.

When I worked there, if it was legal-ish and it rolled, I'd go.

As long as these companies require or expect drivers to take the time to have things fixed and the driver gets shafted with no compensation during down time then drivers will only pass the problem down the line.

This industry will be in dire straits in 10 years, a major compensation overhaul needs to happen.

I was talking about switching drivers to a mixture of mileage and hourly on another thread, and someone was pissed off at me saying they would only pay drivers minimum wage. Well guess what. If you got minimum wage while you were sitting somewhere, that would be better than the current $0.

Now if they went straight hourly, minimum wage would not be a good deal. That would be something to bargain over. But if you got your mileage pay plus minimum wage when you were sitting on a dock or in the shop? It's more money than you're making right now.

Only if they leave the mileage pay rate where it is. If they cut it, the the driver loses.

Definitely agreed. And if they went straight hourly pay with overtime after 40, the megas would go about $10 per hour, and the best companies would go about $20 per hour. And everyone else between.

I'm not saying that's what it is right or just, but simply what would happen.

Megas are very comfortable with their employees earning about $1,000 per week before taxes.
