I did absolutely nothing today, yet managed to spend all day doing it. Took over 20 minutes to get out of the OC and only 14 minutes to get to my shipper, live load at a chemical plant. Spent over 3 hours there between getting my truck searched twice and dealing with Union breaks amd eventually getting loaded with 20 pallets of oxidizer that were already right next to the dock. Scaled out the load onsite and headed back to the OC to drop it for a relay. 19 miles total for 4 hours. Drop the trailer and I am just so darn proud of myself for taking the time to write out the axle weights for the next driver.
So I bobtail out and head to dropyard on the other side of Houston, 30 miles away for an Mt. I'm almost there, still feeling good about myself, and I look over and see the bills for load I dropped, still sitting on the seat....I swore so much, I was about 2 rants away from a heart attack. LUCKILY my second customer was a few block away from the first one, so I was going to heading right back there anyway (sonuva....)
I get to the drop lot and every single trailer in there was around when Jesus was still on the earth. One had a hole busted through the floorboards and the one I grabbed was filled with trash. 30 minutes later I'm done and on my way back to the OC,,,,,,, except the hwy is getting shut down because a huge 2and a half lane oversize load is getting the hwy and I stare at his rear end for the next 20 minutes and then take another 20 to get back to the OC and put the bills in the box, thank god the other drivee hadnt shown up yet, and head to my next customer and immediatley notice no Schneider trailers there, so my D&H is another live load, complete with Union breaks. There over 3 hours. A stevens transport, next to me, has to wait 45 minutes for them to finish loading 1 pallet on him.
I get done its almost 6pm. Tired, and havent eaten yet today and no drinks, so I go to small T/S the next exit down, scale it and call it a day. 98 miles in 10 hours. Its rush hour and they have me running back roads up to north texas. I only saw a handfull of small truck atops along the way. I didnt want to risk not being able to find a spot at 10pm and with a haz mat load to boot. Ill hit the road at about 4am.
The lonliness really hit me hard today. Been hard to deal with. -
Well unfortunately things change in trucking, freight gets soft and they need you to step up. If you really need to be home every week you might start looking for a local job. Either with sni or other companies. Have u tried estes, ups, yellow roadway etc. I've been out here long enough nothing stays the same, being home as a regional driver I don't see as making enough money for my needs. I'm southeast regional but spend 90%all over the north east and Midwest. There's just not a lot freight in that area. So I go where the freight is.

Most regional positions at Schneider are slated for 6 days off a month, basically a 34 hr restart every week if that's what you want. Most regional drivers I know stay out for at least two weeks at a time. It's easier to get miles and they get more quality time at home (2-3 days off). Usually at the beginning of a quarter I will tell my DBL when I want to be home for the next quarter. That way he has one message to deal with, the APM can easily see all my calendar events, and I get home when I want to (mostly).
Being that you live in Jacksonville getting home and then getting you back on the road every weeks may be problematic for an OTR company. If home time is the most important thing than you need to look at local companies/accounts. It look's like you've been around long enough to be able to easily secure a local gig. -
Anyone doing the dollar genaral account out of south Kearny? New account running to Conn and back more like a line hall.

Spoke with him today we are going to look all the options until we can get me on a dedicated account

I'm actually on that run right now. Spending the night in Waterbury at the TA. Looks like a mess @ Dollar... Got there this afternoon about five minutes into their one hour lunch, no clue on trailers, but got out unscathed. 35k rode nice kinda choked up. We'll see what happens tomorrow! Then I'm off to Ohio!

Schneider Bulk Tanker rolled over this morning on I-94 in Chicago. Roads were a mess this morning but they weren't as bad by mid day.
