Hope it all works out great for you JH, looking forward to hearing about how your new truck does. On my phone so its hard to look back, when is your new truck going to be ready for pickup?

Do you think your load planning strategies will change now that you have to take into account the higher weekly payment? Are you going to be required to keep the managed maintenance account with SFI or not?

    Jar-Head Thanks this.

I don't understand. Why cant people just be happy for people ? I mean really, people take steps to help them selfs out or they feel its the right choice for them or there company. Why cant we just be happy for these guys and support them in there choice ?

Im glad for you jarhead I hope it all works out and if it dont it looks like u have a solid backing to support your self. Best of luck broski. :)

No on the maintenance account cause I proved my business assets and ability to run a business .

Truck will be ready by Wednesday next week

My load planning will not have to change a bit just have to stay out 1 more load a week to my previous plans , higher weekly payment is not gonna hurt me one bit because when you have a older truck you must do the same thing difference is you must hold your breath you put enough back

    Gentlemen Start your Engines !!!!!

Thats what they say just before a race starts.... But this is not a RACE its a business decision I made which worked out BEST FOR ME and MY FAMILY ..

Lots of folks believe in the old premiss that A OLD TRUCK WILL BE YOUR BEST BET....

Coming from a operator who is going on his 3rd Truck not his first ... and a company driver for 8 plus years I can tell you first hand OLDER IS NOT BETTER ... Unless you want to run around and bite your nails and hope today is not the day it comes . What you may ask ... ? The MAJOR you better have saved for. Sure youll enjoy a lower truck note or NO TRUCK PAYMENT .. But your truck payment or lack there of is not what defines you.. It is your ability to be successful and run a profitable business. You can do that wheather your truck note is $0.00 a week or $900 . The difference is the ability to grasp the concept of business and not how cool your truck looks or how fast it will go.

    DONT DO IT JASON ....
DONT GET THE NEW TRUCK THE EMISSIONS WILL KILL YOU...

Really ? thats also what they said on the onset of EGR IN 2002-2003 .. Lots of people live in fear ... FEAR of the UNKNOWN thats what holds you back as a business owner and impairs your ability to strive forward or upgrade. now I could have kept my 2006 but why ? Why stock up for a rainy day when the enivetable is going to happen you going to have to rebuild it and GOD FORBID it be when your out on the road. But - JASON you pre plan for that and do it at home ... Ok but your truck is a piece of equipment it does not know when you plan on rebuilding it or doing rods and mains ... It will fail when it fails and you better be ready for it when it does or you are out of business in a hurry.

MAN I LEASED A TRUCK IN ORDER TO BUY A OLD TRUCK .....
WHY DID YOU SELL YOUR 2006 YOUR NUTS ...

Really ? I find it as progressive thinking because I started at the bottom and used my OLD TRUCKS to build myself up to be able to do the 2015. My thought is this if you start with a LEASE on a 2014 or 15 why on earth would you REGRESS to a old engine you DO NOT know the history on and stake your finances on the DREAM TO OWN ... My personal advise is that If you start leasing continue to do so . and stay UNDER A WARRANTY.. A warranty is worth its weight in gold ..

BUT JASON A OLD TRUCK HAS LESS DOWN TIME ....

Who on earth told you that for years or since trucking one thing is for certain , TRUCKS BREAK and the engine does not care if its a 2015 or a 1999 cabover . Parts fail its not a matter of truck year they just fail.

THAT $730 A WEEK TRUCK NOTE IS GONNA SINK YOU ...

Really ? ( i feel like THE MIZ on WWE now say really over and over ) The difference on one of my 3513 gross weeks are just the $730 so instead of 2200 i will bring home 1500 with less headache ... which is actually what I did anyway because the old truck absorbs the rest if you maintain it correctly ... SHOCKS, AIRBAGS , TRANSMISSIONS , CLUTCHES , REAR ENDS , CLOGGED CROSSOVER PUMPS, SEALS, DRIVELINE , DEFERNITALS , SHIFTING FORKS , the list goes on ... That tow man dont care if you got a WARRANTY or not he wants paid ... 100-300-700-1300, 1575 thats right i paid one time $1575 on a tow bill alone ... Then you sit your butt at the dealer and if your want a DIAGNOSIS just to "see whats wrong " plan on waiting cuase your a CASH CUSTOMER that may or maynot even get the work done ... YOUR NOT A PRIORITY WITH YOUR 1 TRUCK.. trust me. Who is a PRIORITY ... WARRANTY CUSTOMERS cause its GUARANTEED MONEY and repeat work .. So while the old truck may net you $730 a week more than I will .. Believe me when I say youll need that money so good luck .

And before the owner operator GODS start the ABOVE NUMBERS are rough figures ... Ill post more real numbers soon . The insurance cost difference is $247 a month between the 2006 and the 2015 so just so you know I know I didnt post the difference cause this is not my numbers just a example ;-)

So in closing on this chapter . A old truck does not GUARANTEE you nothing except you have NO WARRANTY and your gonna go it ALONE with pretty much no backing .

I cashed out while I was ahead of the game . This is a thinking mans game and I like to think I was very proactive in this move .

    more to come

I drove a million-mile truck for 7 months. There were all kinds of sounds and grinds and groans and bumps...and a clutch replacement, steering column break and freeze-up while driving (and wasn't that fun!) and several trips to our own shop plus TA's for less-than-major repairs. The windows leaked, the doors were noisy, and the shifter was so loose it took me a month to get smooth shifting and finding the next gear, up or down. All in 7 months.

I would have have hated to pay for that myself. I would have had to win the lottery and save it all to afford it. No, thanks. I would take new over old, even with a higher payment. The technology improves, the engines improve (well, sometimes) and the ride is just better.
