Well I kind of was in the same boat today Al.... I got to Frito Lay and turns out they had just put the trailer into the door and started loading it when I got there at 1300. Was supposed to be pre-loaded by 9am so I called into dispatch and told them the story. Frito Lay said it would be about a 6hr load time and if it was, I would not make delivery in time to make my next loads appt in Detroit so I had them pull the 2 loads off me. They gave me the $150 since it was basically a "canceled" load after I was there so I got a run from Indy (same place I delivered this morning) going 125 miles up the road for delivery the same day # $400, plus I will only be 20 miles from home so I will get to sleep in my own bed tomorrow night, then p/u my next load in Hammond, IN going to Toledo for del Monday morning. I will deff be drinking a few this weekend!!! I am half tempted to go over to their tanker division. I spoke with a o/o on it today and he gets $1.45 for ALL miles, and he said he runs more miles empty than he does loaded, gets about 2,500 miles a week and gets home weekends.... might be my cup of tea. Not to mention that this flat-top Star looks odd pulling a big orange pumpkin behind it LOL.... Since I live 30 miles from Gary, I am going to check on some local work tanker side and see what they say. If it's not enough $$$ then I will just have to keep on doing this. Just a note, if you take longer haul freight, you usually don't have the hassles of loads canceling on you as they tend to be booked a week in advance with SNI, plus once you get it, you know you are working for 2-3days LOL
it's just been a bad day all around on more fronts then just work too. my big thing is I really get upset someone saying I was late to a delivery. My on time record is something I hold up very high
That is absolutely the hardest part about trucking... being away from home when there's problems. Al, I bet you are like me in that regard. If everything is under control at home, the problems and delays are just part of the job and not super stressful. But when you are needed at home, even the easiest run is stressful because you are thinking that you should be home. That is the only part of trucking that I hate. The rest I can handle.
I hate being late! even when I was doing the construction schedule for years and years, I ALWAYS got to the shop 15 minutes early or so. Just something about being able to acclimate to the environment before work made the day go better. Not only that I , am OCD (according to my boss) so being late is out of the question
So did you get this late issue resolved? From what you said earlier, your schedule said you were on time! So what's the end result?
ya it's resolved. the reciever said my appt was for 10am the load board when I booked it said 11am but when I got the load info on the quailcom it was open before 12:30.. I just had to make them go look it up. All they know is the customer marked me as late so we had to correct that with customer service. On time record is very important and it just really made me mad. not that it took much to do that today
You sound just like me. And if you are like me, tomorrow is a new day and you will start all over again anew. I can have a terrible day and let it all roll off my back with some good sleep and the start of a new day. Get to bed old man
Hey SHC and MedicineMan can you guy look at the thread I made My CPM 1.05 what am I forgetting here in the O/O section And give me a better Idea on the Numbers and cost with SNI Looking to go with the Choice program Based on SHC listing his loads I should be good on the freight as I Live 30 Minutes from the Indy OC
I found someplace to stop 5 minutes before running out of hours today. two lane bac roads from tulsa all the way to New Caney, TX. not much on some of these back roads .lol I should have made it to my delivery but man it was pouring rain today. I'll deliver in the morning and bobtail home. I have to get some window sealant and fix this leaky windshield
