It is usually the opposite with me. 30k will be 20k. Once I had a load saying 10k that ended up being 45K+. Before I signed the bills I called the broker and told him how much extra it was going to cost. Long story but got my extra and broker lost account.

this is the gulf coast. everything around here runs heavier. tons of paper, crap out of ports that comes off containers is usually heavy, lots of plastic powders and pellets in totes... all usually 44k lbs.

I won't book anything over 44k. what i've seen is the stuff listed at 45k is usually water or paper and it's basically going to be loaded right up to gross and technically I can load 48k on my truck. Me hauling 40k would be like SHC loading 37 or 38k because that star car is considerably heavier

Actually, with me and full tanks (200gal) the bobtail weight is only 19,500. I was very suprised too, i was expecting well into the 20's.

My old FLD with the tiny cab and 300gal of fuel was 18,500.

But you are correct, everything in texas seems to be VERY heavy. That is why i usually don't run down that way. Not to mention the crappy rates coming back north

Truck has to be under 23k lbs and can not exceed 300" wheelbase.... OC/AC is $149 a month I believe. Bobtail is $35 a month and Physical damage depends on insured value, but most are under $135 a month if you want it. I had my 99 FLD insured at $14,999 for $85 a month. My WS has phy dmg insurance included in the lease so I didnt need it.

It is too bad that some of these companies do not allow outside insurance. Most of what is offered, while less expensive, provide far less coverage than what a good policy has.

SNI will let you get your insurance where ever you want. I used to use OOIDA but came to find out that SNI actually had better coverage (such as fire) and also, SNI uses Great American for their insurance. I like it, and it came in handy when I got side-swiped back in 2007 and had to replace the entire hood/cab/windows on my old FLD. Bill was $14,900 at Great Lakes Peterbilt and I only had to pay the $100 deductible, rest was covered fully by SNI's insurance and I got the money the same day as the estimate!

That is good to hear. Not familiar with Great American but would not touch OOIDA.

So many of these companies self insure and put everything through an insurance company then don't let O/O's pick their own. Coverage is stripped down and all claims get routed back to the company before it is paid. Good friend got side swiped by Crete in '07 and just settled this year.
