I threw out a few companies but told her to have him check into Abilene first and foremost.

Hey, I realize we are totally off topic here, but the way it has gone with burglaries, even clear back in the late '70s some departments where so understaffed that they just didn't have the time to investigate them all. Indio California was telling people to "come in and file a counter report," back in the early '80s. Report being needed for insurance....Just imagine how much insurance fraud that must have lead to.
Some agencies have a "public service officer," or a volunteer come out to take a report on scene. If they see anything that looks like "evidence," they might be able to get a uniform or ID tech to respond. Depending on how busy they are at the moment. (Or how many DDs are open.):D

He should look at the following companies to assure that he gets home daily or have weekends off:

    UPS
    YRC
    Conway/XPO
    Old Dominion
    FEDEX
    Este
    Oak Habor
Other Local or Regional LTL, Courier companies.

    Better pay, benefits, hometime,

Also he can look at some local cartage companies that drop/hook trailers for the larger OTR Companies that do not have a terminal or a drop lot the area.

Also grocery store chains. Walmart, kroger, Albertson, Vons, Ralphs, Safeway, Milehi, Associated Foods and etc.,

Food Distribution: US Foods, Mclane, Sysco. Mostly night work, some have driver face cameras.

If his current employer's conditions of employment are making his and his family's life miserable, and there are no better options where they live, then to me it's a no brainer. Move to an area where the better options are available.

Yes, that makes the decision making process a bit more complex in this case. If what you posted is the case with the OP, (needs the money, and OTR is the only option where they live), then the OP shouldn't even be coming home every two weeks. When you're OTR, your first week out and last week before home time are money losing weeks. You don't have time to get into the good lanes and get some quality work time in.

The other option would be to move 'home base' to an area that has good paying local work that also offers the home time that the OP requires.

This is sometimes a lot easier to say, than it is to do. Particularly for a family man, who's kids are old enough to be deeply involved in activities. And possibly a wife who just isn't going to move "that far," from Mama...
That's why you see a lot of folks who have their homes and family in one place, while they are working someplace else.

Oh yes, I know. Life isn't easy. But if he's not bringing home enough coin to feed the family and pay for his kids' activities (after school stuff costs a LOT of money), AND the wife wants him home every other weekend, then something's got to give.

    I am s
I am sorry, but all I can picture is King Arthur saying "My knights of the round table, the super evil load planner has challenged one of you to battle to decide if a driver gets to go home. Which of you will accept his challenge?" "I, Super Powerful DBL, will accept his challenge!!!!"

Trucking isn't a game or a fairy tale, it is a business. A business that relies on people being able to pick up loads and deliver them. Trucking isn't an exact science. Loads get delayed, shippers aren't ready with product. Appointments get missed and rescheduled. Weather, accidents, breakdowns all contribute. First the OP complains that their days off together are being missed, then later states that they are "financially desperate". My first question is if they take away his days off when will he be home next? After this load, next week, Thanksgiving afternoon? I have worked with drivers who went into the office and raised a ####storm because they weren't making enough money, then the following month they are in the same office raising another ####storm because they are on the road too much...
