schneider is the worst.

SNI does allow idling: 5% 1st and 4th qtrs, 15% 2nd qtr, 25% 3rd qtr. If you don't have a bunk heater, you can have your idle times rolled back so as not to affect your bonus. SNI policy is for you to idle below 10 deg (also rolled back) if you can't plug in regardless. You can get your qtrly bonus and not freeze to death. I actually prefer the bunk heater over idling because it is quiet and doesn't smell of diesel. Most of the time the SNI policies are fine, but there are problems. The Webasto bunk heaters do not work well under 20 deg, so when temps are 10-20 deg, you will not be comfortable...sort of a no man's land. If you are in a hot climate you have no bunk A/C, and therefore in order to be comfortable you will have to idle, and that cannot be rolled back. So you do have a legitimate complaint under certain circumstances. I'd like to know the idling policies of other companies for comparison.

You are very right. I bumped a JB Hunt intermodal trailer with my Marten trailer. I had approx 7 months experience at the time. No damage to either trailer, the other driver called his safety dept, so I had to inform Marten. Two days later I was terminated with an entry on my DAC.
Marten hires drivers with only 6 months experience, seems strange that they expect a level of perfection from people who are still learning their trade. I expected to have used up some of my "Marten points" but not being terminated. It put a damper on my career for the next four months.
You better be perfect in this industry when you drive for a mega, you better not expect to be paid well, get any respect from anyone or have any quality of life.
It's very puzzling that it is so bad in light of another driver shortage coming upon us..

With all due respect, that's often just hogwash. (Note I said "often")

I work for SNI (box, not bulk). I'll make 50k this year. Not as much as I'd like, but I don't train and therefore don't have to share a truck. Two weeks vacation. Decent insurance. Home on time. Paychecks accurate, including extra pay always included (without having to ask) and correct.

You get what you accept. Problems? Sure. Everywhere. Every industry and business. I'm considering a change right now, due in part to a change in my wife's employment, and I admit to being highly peeved at our weekend crew of late.

Oh, and I wasn't perfect when I hired on three years ago, and I've had a truck-lane violation ticket while employed here. And I'm still here.

The generalizations get way too much airplay sometimes.

 

You are not likely to be terminated at SNI for an accident if you were moving slowly (ie backing into a parked truck). If you high hook or drop a trailer you will definitely be fired.

 

That's dead-on. High hook or dropping a trailer show a failure to follow SNI policy on proper technique, as they will discuss with an applicant at the time of road test.

 

I've been with sni for a bout a month now. I can't say they're the best company to be with, at least from what I see from them. It's been pretty hard just to try to live and take care of myself while on the road, let alone take care of my wife and daughter and pay bills. I can't say that I'm to pleased with my time here so far. Hopefully in march I can find somethin better.

Large numbers still coming thru CDL mills, and companies slow to increase fleets untill rates rise.

Until freight sits and rots on docks for extended periods - like weeks, freight rates will not rise.

There are still plenty of trucks showing up to move the cheapest freight.

 

Not only was I leased to SNI for a couple years, I was a "carrier" for them when I ran my own authority. Fantastic company IMO.
How someone with little to no experience can criticize a company like Schneider National when they can't even spell it's name correctly beats the hell outa me.
