why does this person have the same issue at four different times?is he not getting the correct issued resolved the first time? is this a problem with the engine / system itself or the inability of mechanics to solve the engine / system? I say its a lack of troubleshooting knowledge.

It's not how many miles you need on percentage but revenue... That's one of the biggest misconceptions about percentage programs... Don't chase miles but revenue per mile.27butterfly, GoGetta07, Rafa_Juli and 5 others Thank this.

Because emission system problems are always a nightmare to sort out once they start. They pushed the technology out before it was very solid. Depending on the engine, some emissions systems need a LOT of hand holding once they get some miles on them, and frankly, most dealerships/mechanics are just throwing darts at a wall to sort it out given the vague codes thrown and symptoms that pop up.VaGump, Rafa_Juli, Pork Chop Express and 1 other person Thank this.

It's the Cummins designed DPF/SCR system. They changed everything from the turbo back, all components per Cummins Tech Support. Issue kept coming back. On the 4th time it was determined it was not mechanical. It was a bad program in the ECM. Reprogramed the ECM and it now runs like a raped ape and had a big gain in MPG, also. FYI, Cummins picked up the tab for all the parts they through at it. They were stumped. Never seen this problem before. After figuring it out and me on the road, they had 4 more trucks come in with the same problem but now they know what to do.

And you donated your down time to the cause ....
Rafa_Juli and Home_on_wheels Thank this. -
Didn't have much choice. With a CEL and derated, had to get it fixed. At least I didn't have to pay for the parts three times.

Sounds to me like DEF/DPF problems are costly because the techs get "stumped" with what to do. Is there a DPF/DEF certification those techs have to pass in order to know what to do?
-
If there is, it ain't worth the paper it's printed on.

Most of these so called technicians only know to plug the computer in and replace whatever components the computer tells them to.
If you're lucky you get a real mechanic that actually knows how to find the real problem and fix it. -
Was just approved for financing through SFI, here is the breakdown. ...
First, your credit and experience matters!
My credit is below 700 but not 'bad', but zero o/o experience and some shaky work history (be careful jumping ship guys) put me at the following quoted down payments.
1 year lease - used shaker 3k
New shaker 4k
3 year lease new pete or kw 7k
No used KWs or Petes were available, and to get a Volvo you must have prior o/o experience.
I did not get a quote on a longer term Shaker as I'm not interested in that truck for the long run.
I will be leasing a Champagne Cascadia for 1 year, then will go to an outside source for a truck if the money is right for me.
