Some people work for companies where they are unable to save that much money. A zero money down lease may be the ONLY way they can move up and out of their current place and on to better things. Just because a person doesn't have that much money to personally invest doesn't mean he or she doesn't become invested in their future and their business.
-
So, you got this truck with zero down payment?
-
I live in the center of North Carolina. How are the lanes around here and where do they go? I have been running East to West coast as a company driver where I am now. If the freight pays better out west and I have to stay out a little longer, that's okay with me.
-
and what happens if you're in an accident your first week out?
You don't get to swap trucks or get down time pay like when you're a company driver.
If that happens you could be without income for a while, all the while still having to pay for insurance, tags on truck and etc all of which could lead to a complete disaster.
Hows that gonna work out for someone who leases a truck with zero money in the bank?
If someone can't get out of a pos low paying job or cant save any money there's somethings seriously wrong with that picture and they have no business being in business.spyder7723 Thanks this. -
Not every business owner starts with money in the bank, I would never advise anybody to go into business without money in the bank however I also believe certain people can make it work.
I'm not going to say what they should or shouldn't do but I will say even with a new truck I wouldn't do it.
I've got a 2016 KW that spent 10 of its first 52 weeks in the shop.
Payments still were due, insurance, tags, permits etc. I did save on fuel.
So for anyone with the hopes of a brighter future if you work hard and smart it can be done. But the truck will break down, sickness happens, freight disappears, loads cancel all the while costs rise.
If you can't save money you can't make money!
So without being degrading or depressing take it for what it's worth. 4k isn't a lot of money in the O/O world heck 20k isn't so if you can't rub 2 quarters together buying a truck probably won't make it any easier.
Good Luck to all and to all those wanting to be O/O........ go to Interstate.redoctober83, alpha beta and freightwipper Thank this. -
Opinions are like bellybuttons...everyone has one and you are welcome to it. Regarding your first question. For me personally, it makes no difference if I am a company driver or O/O. If I am hurt or sick, I am pretty much screwed as I do not get "down time" pay. No income is no income, so perhaps it wouldn't make much difference for someone like me or in my status.
Also, you equate no money for a down payment as no many at all. That isn't always the case. That several thousand dollars may be the savings in the event of something like which you describe, to survive, thus not being available for a DP.
Now, if you are in an accident bad enough to take your truck out of commission for an extended period of time, the fact you can worry about it and not worry about medical bills is a blessing. From my understanding SFI gets the repairs completed and subtracts additional funds out every week until you catch up not only on your savings, but also what you owe them. -
For the record, I am not saying the program is perfect. No matter what a person does in life there are risks. What I was saying is many people find themselves in situations where the only way to get out of them and move on is to take bigger risks. They either succeed or they fail, but at least they are making the attempt. Others are comfortable with what they have and refuse to take any risk. Life is about making choices. As long as a person is willing to live with the results, I see no problem with taking a few chances every now and then.
alpha beta Thanks this. -
