Glad you found this site. I just wish some of the responses were more favorable. Check the contract. I would think that this issue must be addressed some where in it!

Keep us posted on which path you take, especially if you decide to sue them.
I just think you don't have a leg to stand on when dealing with this sort of thing. This is because I know they've done it to others in the past and have become pros at beating people in court. They wouldn't be doing this so blatantly to you if their legal footing wasn't so stable. Oh, it's stable, and they know it.
I think you'll have to say goodbye to 3 grand. They'll be victorius in this case.
Let them enjoy their victory. Let 'em savor it in the short time they will savor it. The celebration will be short-lived. I say this because after the party, they'll have to face the fire here. They can get that 3 grand from you, but I GUARANTEE we can bust their chops on sites like this in negative press and they'll lose a lot more. Yeah, a few more trucks are gonna be sitting around for a little longer each month if they do pick your pocket.
That's right, Schneider. Yeah, I'm talking to YOU. Go ahead and steal from this guy. If you bust this guy, you big ol' tough company, you, you'll definitely be on at least one person's #### list. What happens next? Well, some of us don't quit, and some of those do know how to write and type. Are you gettin' my drift here?
All those sick of the legalized theft, please stand up. -
This poor guy had requested some help on craigslist in Mpls, MN. It was flagged and removed before I could direct him to this site. I posted a follow-up on Craigslist a link to this site and asked nobody to "flag it" and they didn't and he found it...so if we work together, we can "kick the pumpkin in the #####". Somebody else posted on C/L right after my post stating that he had a similar deal with C.R. England. Lets "spread the word". I would like to hear what the contract states!

They made us sign the contract 2 days after we started so the day they let me go was 2 days after i signed the contract, which would make it 48hrs.

They started doing that becuase people caught on to a little trick.. They included the contract l the paperwork during orientation an people would not sign or just make funny marks... They would not catch it till way later when they were going threw the files.. Sometimes way later... -
I say stick it to sni as hard as you can. Even if something was wrong on your license or background a "company" would normally pull you to the side and ask about it first. Seems odd. You could go to the labor board or a lawer. I would take lawer. The labor board might post it on your dac like they did a buddy of mine. First consoltation is normally free with a lawer. If he thinks he has a case he will tell you. If you do sue them for lawer fees, court cost, etc. But dont get your hopes up. Nothing might happen, but you will be able to sleep better at night knowing you tried to do something about it as opposed to letting them run over you like they do so many others. Who knows, you might help the next guy in by do it. Trust me you arent the first guy this has happened to and not the last unless someone stands up to them. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sounds like the great pumpkin has figured out a way to place the hiring costs on the prospective employees.
I am currently working for the big W (or Crap-Mart as I like to call it), in the store, not driving. God forbid they should find out about this 'new way' to stick it to the regular Joe. I can see it now... "Sign here and here and here--you have to work for us for a year or you'll owe us $6000."
Joe Blow will come in off the street, apply to the highly-sought-after position of Cart Pusher, only to be fired a couple weeks down the road when he don't push 'em fast enough. Then they'll keep his last paycheck, because he owes for 'training'. The writing is on the wall. -
I don't think you have to worry about that problem cropping up anywhere outside of circles like trucking. This is because it'd cause political problems. One thing the establishment works hard to defeat is a situation in which voters have an issue they can be united over. This is why prohibition was repealed. Well, this and the fact that the poor people were uniting because they were poor, and the richer folk were uniting because they wanted to drink. The threat was there for both groups to unite and what happened? Liquor reappeared, and the government established social security. If you had to pay Wal-Mart 6 grand, lots of others would have to do that as well. So many would have to pay that 6K they may come together and form a dangerous voting block to get themselves out of having to pay. Such an unification can't be allowed, so the issue that will cause it won't be allowed.
Truck drivers can be forced to pay this, though. Why? because OTR truck drivers can be screwed over, at least on the local and state level. They never vote in their own home states, and they frequently travel to other states where they don't matter even if they DO vote back home. There is no threat of their uniting to defeat this kind of nonsense. This is the reason why you see places like Cally trying to use trucks as a source of revenue. Everybody must go to Cally from time to time, and with Cally being the world's 6th largest economy, well....they can do with you whatever they want if you're an out-of-town driver who's coming in. What are you gonna do about it? Nothing, is what. You're a stranger who doesn't know anyone and doesn't know how to start any unifying action. If you're a Wal-mart homebody, you can walk down to the local elementary school on any given night and meet with other people to discuss anything political. OTR truck drivers can't do that. They're always moving from place to place far from their local voting booths and meeting halls and interact only with strangers on a day-to-day basis. -
knowler, i know what you are going through when i got my cdl's in january 2000 i signed up through a student loan for 3,000 bucks big mistake. i admit at the time i was irresponable and made a couple of payments and missed a few and before i knew it a 3,000 loan became a 15,000 loan and bankrupicity wouldn't cover it and luckily they called about 5 months ago and they said they would settle for 4 thousand dollars and i jumped on it but this would been about the same after interest but i wouln't advise waiting this long because every credit app. showed up and hurt my score and even though it's paid off it still haunts me now sorry so long and my spelling is bad
