In my opinion, the small class sizes are a huge plus for Millis. Great equipment, great home time policy, more than competitive pay for a new driver, and the trucks aren't orange.
Schneider Or Millis, which is better for a new driver?

Who has more freight and will keep you moving ??
I think Schneider wins that one easily.. -
More freight doesn't guarantee solid, consistant miles to each truck. 90% of the time, the driver controls his own destiny as far as making money with a company or not.

I started out with Millis a very long time ago knowing now what I didn't know then, Schneider all the way.. -
First I work for Millis. My brother worked for schneider and now is at millis. here is his schneider story: Schneider is a crook, for example, when you pick up a load if you dont deliver the load (a relay), due to being out of hours, breakdown (which will happen alot, their trucks are old junk), you dont get paid on any part of the load, plan on sitting alot in all reality schneider is a LTL carrier that says they are an otr company. Now Millis is top notch, alot of miles if you actually want to work. They mostly deliver all states east of the great Mississippi, no Florida for obvious reasons. They mostly haul BEER, so you better keep that following distance, you slide the load you will unload all that product re-stack it and put it back in the trailer yourself, so i suggest you are kind and polite to other drivers, that is if you want help re-doing your load. to date knock on my plastic dash that has yet to happen. If you do go there i highly suggest you ask for Paul Butler to be your trainer, he is top notch and if you do everything exactly how he tells you, you will have a long profitable career, plus the guy actually gives you his cell # so you can call hin anytime day or night after you leave his truck until you know where you are going etc, etc, hes truly one of the truckers from the past that still gives a crap about this industry. Obviously you should be able to tell he was my trainer, two years in and i have only had 1 hard break to avoid a car that came across the medium heading towards me. this has been my experience only. im sure there is someone else thats got something bad to say. also my brother still works at millis as well and as far as i know hes still happy. Good LUCK!! newbie

Schneider is a crook, huh ?? that may well be I suppose..
and that coke snorting little puke mikey millis isn't ?? -
That sucks about Millis not going all 48 as I want to see the whole Country 48 possible Alaska never been there or to CA,WA, alot of west coast. They are one company I am considering though along with Schneider,Swift,Stevens,Prime,USA Truck,Pam Transport,Werner and Knight I was considering CR-England and CRST but heard too many bad things about them.I am single 46 grown kids being away from home 3-4 months doesn't bother me I just want the 1 yr. exp. so I can do something local if I choose.I also want to make more than 400.00 a week that I did as an armed security guard and get out of debt and pay this 25,000 student loan off from 2007 that I can't get an entry level IT job in.I really want to do this and can do it yea I know it will be hard so was basic training to a degree but I got through it.I am studying for the written test now. My work history isn't that great but ok for last 5 yrs. same with driving record no tickets ect. since 2006 will I be ok and I know it is all up to me but any suggestions of company paid training ect. would be helpful of good companies to start with that won't screw you over like I have heard about CRST and CR-England. If any negative please explain why I am very serious about this and am determined to do it. I just want a good starting point here and trucking truth have been really good for research of companies and to get info ask questions ect. Thanks to all for input Brad.

lets get into driver comfort for just a minute. SNI has installed ambient temp sensors to limit idle to no more than 4 minutes between 20-70 degrees. Recent change. My truck wont ldle for longer than 4 minutes as low as 14 degrees. I shudder to think how it will be on a humid ##### day at or near 70. No APU's at SNI either.
One thing I will say , contrary to what the above poster said about SNI beong a crook on relayed runs, what was posted is just not true.
I havent worked at Millis , so I cant speak to them or their operations. Any qustions about SNI , I'll be happy to answer if I can or direct you to the DAC section and Schnieders page there. Same would go for Millis. Check them out. -
Mickey, can you elaborate a little on this ambient temp sensor thing? Does it mean that if it's 25'F, drivers are supposed to sleep or whatever w/ no heat?
I'd love to start out w/ Schneider and actually stay w/ them, but not at the risk of getting pneumonia. -
