Thanks to every one for the clarification. He will have to try some where may be a company that use automatic transmissions. Thank again.

I think he'd be better off working at shifting a manual, if he's able. Give it time and I think he'd master it.

I see you're from Richmond. I've been sitting at the Peelot in Colonial Heights since this morning, waitin to load and head for home. It doesn't load till 1500 tomorrow, so I'll get to enjoy some more warm Virginia climate for a little while longer.

    .

I guess they got tired of trucks being driven by friends and family members of drivers.

I started working there just before they went to auto and they where bragging on how much safer the drivers would be not having to worry about shifting the trucks.

And on the SNI thing. 6 day orientation? Is that for everyone? that seems about 4 days 2 long for a experienced driver.

My orientation was 7 days, but I am a new driver, I believe the experienced driver orientation is 3 or 4 days.

manual just takes time and patience; a good teacher helps too- I had an instructor who just grunted for 2 months; then I had another who explained things to me rpms speeds etc in 4 extra lessons and I passed my license exam. then when I got hired I got better with practice- just because something is hard to do does not mean you shouldn t try or give up- it is for that reason you should challenge yourself ( or in your brothers case, he himself) to strive for more and better.

Unfortunately, that is standard practice in this industry. It's probably not legal, but companies do a lot of things like that because they can get away with it. A letter from an attorney would likely get him some compensation. But folks usually just don't bother and companies count on this.

absolutley correct. No company pays you for orientation unless you are hired and most companies will get you home if you do not pass orientation. there are a few that will kick you out the door and say find your own way home. do your homework before going to orientation and make sure you write down what the recruiter has to say to at least have it when you walk in the door.
