    The nice lady on the phone told me .44 cents per mile for the OTR job in my area. 2,200-2,500 miles a week. This seems low. Can I negotiate? FedEx pays .74 cents, home every night. But I want try OTR.

    I see both Leonard's Express and Shaffer trucks running through Las Vegas frequently.
    Both also run Pacific Northwest.
    Unlike Schneider, those companies run solo drivers coast to coast.

    Thanks ChinaTown. 60 cents sounds much better. Yes my plan is to sign onto a good company with lots of terminals then transfer out west. Just want to choose my first job wisely.

    I enjoy living in the west. Moved here from Tennessee. No regrets.
    Wyoming and Nevada have no state income taxes.
    Considered moving to the western end of I-80 in Wyoming, but ended up moving to Henderson, Nevada which is Clark County/Las Vegas.

    Wyoming is beautiful, but too darn cold. I’ve done a lot of research and keep coming back to Las Vegas. It has everything I need. I have several places to crash in CT if I miss snowy winters.

    Right. Home every DAY. And they make you start off as a “driver apprentice.” Who knows how long that lasts. $5,500 and 8 weeks to get a cdl I’m not trying to be stuck in some warehouse for several more months. I know people covet these LTL local jobs but I’ll take the lower pay to get out on the road.
