It's a trade-off I reckon. Flatbed is getting dirty with load securement and tarping, and tanker is the danger of shock load and that you could be hauling some highly corrosive or explosive stuff.
I'm envisioning when I'm getting into my 50s, I probably won't want to be bothered with doing flatbed as much. -
Awesome, thanks for the reference. I'll look them up and add to my list. How's their reputation among truckers?

Everything I’ve heard is positive. I’ve been with them 5 months and feel very fortunate to have started with them. Good pay, good people (at my terminal anyway), good equipment, decent trainingcoastietruckin' Thanks this.

I haven't driven a semi in 2.5 years. Would a company like Trimac take me on? I did graduate from truck driving school back in February of 2015.

Do a year anywhere you want. Once you have a year, get in touch because the company I’m working for is the best I have found and believe me, I’ve applied and talked to at least 600 recruiters in the last 2 years. Will clear 91k this year running about 9 hours per day OTR and they pay for my insurance and match my retirement savings dollar for dollar. They require a year though.
That said, the transition would be easier from a TMC than from tanker, because I run flatbed. But I was doing dry bulk when I came here and it wasn’t too rough a transition.mattymatt Thanks this. -
I'm in school now but looking at companies, I'm in New Castle De so I've been looking at all the companies listed above. I will say probably one of the nicest people I have talked to so far is the terminal manager at superior Scott has gone above and beyond with me asking questions and being "green" I'm seriously considering them. Though I'm also looking at LTL companies and previously worked for estes at there old cinnamison yard they had, only reason I ever left was they moved the yard to Lakewood, my old terminal manager was a really nice guy he is still with them, I really wish I would have stayed but the commute would have killed me.Slim51 Thanks this.

How much longer do you have in school?
