There putting lease returns with app's in the company fleet some have the idle free units on them ( about 50) which isn't going to give them very good statistics cause you still have to idle during a 34 to keep it charged and some don't even work well enough to make through a 10hr break.
I have seen any yet with a tripac.

That post makes me question if you don't care about Schneider then why are you replying to a thread for Schneider?

I kind of laugh at they sit there and say they need several years to analyze the data... Anybody with any lick of sense knows that an APU pays for itself time and time again... I'm willing to bed after a couple years they're going to sit there and say nope they're not worth the money

I had the original TriPac. It had a lot of repairs and I think the manual said it used 3/4 of a gallon per hour when the diesel engine was running. That not very efficient. Today they are $12,000 plus repairs plus diesel to run it.

My 2017 Freightliner has the old but new again Detroit Optimized Idle system. The computers can start the truck engine for a/c or engine oil temp or charging batteries or sleeper heat. I have bunk heater so don't need the heat part of Optimized idle. It the same system Detroit had in the 90s

Here is the big difference today. It can now do parked regeneration on the DPF automatically ! It does at 1,300 RPMs and only takes 20 minutes.

So you almost don't need APU anymore. The truck engine is clean burning so it's legal to idle it. You save $12,000 plus repairs and the truck engine only Burnes 1/4 more diesel per hour of Idle time.
I'm not sure we need APUs anymore

An APU is more efficient than sitting there idling the truck simply because it burns a lot less fuel plain and simple and the wear and tear on the motor from sitting there idling isn't done either

    foggy and mxpx148 Thank this.
