well, thats a lie, because you dont keep the same trailor directly and your suppose to do an inspection on it daily. So,if there is something wrong with it why did he hook it up and drive off with it...???

I could be wrong since I'm not a mechanic, but I've been thinking about both issues. I realize the op may be long gone, but maybe we can use this thread to help others. First issue is the co2, is it possible what he was smelling was actually the blow by from the engine breather tube? The other issue is with the brakes. How could brakes lock p with no warning? If a brake chamber went bad you should hear an audible air leak and you definitely would be losing air pressure. At about 60 psi you get that wonderful buzzer. In the case of a wheel seal there would usually be a puddle. So how do you unexpectedly have your brakes lock on one side only?

If the u-joint on the drive shaft let go and ripped the airlines to the brakes on one side or the other, they would lock within seconds.
There isn't always alot of warning when a u-joint snaps.

But wouldn't all the brakes lock up ? Not just one side...

I find it hard to believe that this dude would know what locked up where if something like that happened. If you hear or feel anything weird, you always look in the drivers side mirror first, right?
After that, in that situation, its all a cluster####.
