With a big carrier like Schneider, you will probably doing a lot of drop and hook. Your biggest issue may be finding an empty trailer in certain cities. Atlanta and Fontana was the worlds worst finding an empty trailer when I drove for them

It's not a scam.
They charge you 2 cents per mile ...BUT, more than half your pay is tax exempt.
You actually take home more money plus you don't have to hire a tax man at the end of the year to figure it all out for you.
Now...that being said, it does have a negative impact you your social security benefits, unemployment, and workers comp stuff.
Since those are based only the income you are taxed on.
Schneider has been fine for me. I bonus every quarter, that's 2cpm right there...got a 3cpm raise at 6 months, another 3 cpm raise at 12 months and get a 1.5 - 2cpm raise each year after that so long as I keep bonus type performance. ( max is 39cpm + bonus)
So...In a nut shell
I'm into my 2 year now, paid 34cpm and only half of that is being taxed....after health insurance for me and my kids, dental, and 6% towards my 401k ...my TAKE HOME pay is $700-$800 / week.
Now, that's certainly not rich money, but it's decent...particularly for someone starting off in a brand new career path.
It works out to about $50k / year...but taxed at a $25k rate. -
2 years driving and only earning .34 cpm? Another reason to NOT go with the mega starter companies. I was earning .06 cpm mile more than that with my first job after school. If people continue to take the path of least resistance the mega companies will have slave labor available.

What was your first trucking company you went with and thats why I was 2nd guessing schnider and going with a percentage pay with tmc

How was your 401k?...did they match your contribution?
How was your medical and dental insurance?
Was it Fed Ex? ...don't they start you off part time, on the docks till you gain seniority?
Don't you have to pay union fees too?
Did you get lots of miles?
40 cpm doesn't mean much if you only get 1000 miles a week.
How was your home time? I can set my own schedule.
Making $50k per year plus a full benefits package is not bad for someone starting off brand new to an industry.
What company did you start with that paid more?
I've heard of some smaller companies that pay more...but they don't have medical insurance and such either....or fewer miles or old equipment. Their is always a catch.
How about a nation wide program to get emergency assistance?
Schneider has that. If I break down..I'm either up and running within 2 hours or in a hotel room....no matter where I am at, nation wide.
Did I mention a 2cpm quarterly bonus? ....Which I've achieved every quarter so far.
So it's realistically .36cpm in my second year.
You gotta look at the big picture. -
The company was Luckey Trucking. Started at .40 cpm with full medical and dental. 401 (k) after 90 days. Averaged 2700-3100 miles per week and was home every weekend and many times got home during the week for a night as all of our runs were out and back. None of this being out for 3-6 weeks at a time nonsense. Plus our truck would actually do the speed limit..............
Look, I'm not saying Schneider is a bad company, but the fact is there are many better opportunities out there for new graduates than the mega starter companies. Unfortunately most people are too lazy to put in the effort required to uncover those opportunities. -
Elindel thank u very much for ur insight I really appreciate it I am gonna look more and dig deeper does luckey hire opeople out of ct

I'm going with Schneider. I looked at some of the company safety records that pay more per mile and some of them scare me with how high their equipment safety scores are. I would rather give up a few cents per mile and drive safer equipment. There is a reason that some companies have to pay more per mile: to get drivers to want to drive for them.
-
Ask yourself this: Why is a company (like Schneider for example) always hiring drivers each and every week? Could it be because drivers are always quitting? If they were all that great to work for, it sure would seem to me that it would be a lot harder to get hired. Have a CDL and a pulse and you're in........... -
