OK I guess. I bet the ####### who glory in telling what drivers do get a lot wet. Well, I am glad that I don't deliver to self righteous ####s who think they are doing public safety who in reality who just want to #### with you.

Remember that for every rule there was an idiot who did something that required the rule.

Chemical plants have safety protocols for a reason, and even if they didn't have a good reason - their plant, their rules. If you don't want to meet their needs or they aren't paying you enough to meet their needs - don't work for them.

A thought for you - how many people who enforce arbitrary rules are doing so because they get off on it and how many do it to avoid getting hassled by their boss?

One nice thing about Cabela's is they have truck parking if you get stuck there for your break.

But it really sounds like they are rushing you through this, like they are desperate for drivers and need them yesterday.
Be careful with that. With only 5 days with the trainer you may only get half a dozen loads to learn things, and not all the stores are as easy as some.
Like another poster mentioned, take your time and get out to look if there is any question in your mind as to the room you have to work with.

Never be in a rush to get the trailer in the dock.
They can wait a few minutes on you getting it right, much more so than you waiting for hours as you are filling out accident reports.

    Nope.

I submit -- with all due respect -- that's probably all too typical for Schneider.

Back when I was starting out -- I was on a trainer's truck for only 4 1/2 days.

    It's amazing.

The bottom line: Schneider expects A LOT out of a new driver.

    And in a hurry. o_O

But, but, I thought Schneider has the best, most excellent training in the known and unknown universe, for new cdl school grads!

While I agree the training period on the road is too short, the data shows that more time with a trainer doesn't improve safety or retention rates. At a certain point, folks need to sink or swim. When the trainer is still riding in the right hand seat, the trainee doesn't start truly thinking for themselves no matter how good the trainer is.

If a driver isn't ready after the week with a TE, we will bring them back for a skills evaluation. If there's something to salvage, we'll coach them through the week and send them out with a different trainer. Usually when this happens the driver was on the bubble all the way through and shouldn't have gotten a CDL in the first place.

There have been times when Ops puts pressure on Training to pass marginal guys, but that's certainly not the case right now. The 'rush' isn't desperation, it's because longer training doesn't give better results.

I think the expectation is that you know how to drive when you show up (likely over expecting, but nevertheless).
Look, Schneider is a pretty good gig and a decent place to work. Will you make your first million there? Nope. Will you hate your dispatcher and life the first couple of weeks? Probably.
But, everybody has to start somewhere and Schneider is a decent place to start.

Edit because I'm on my phone.....
The cool thing about Schneider, like @gentleroger was saying, is that they'll work with you if you're willing to learn. There's lots of folks that will just put you back on the bus (if you're lucky).

    It does.

Spending 30 days on a trainer's truck doesn't mean a driver spent 30 days learning. After 7 days, the amount of new information being taken in drops exponentially, particularly if after 7 days the truck starts running as a team.

I'll put our 6 month results up against any other mega.

Is $38K normal for a year? One driver said that's all he could squeeze out of the company for 2 or 3 years.
Another one posted the best he was doing is $700 weekly before taxes and that was on a dedicated run.
