Well that's a start

 

Kids with firearms is not an answer. Kids/teens just aren't mature enough to be trusted with a firearm in today's society. I don't care how much "training" they've had.

Too many kids today are not as "mature" as the average kid was only 50 years ago. Some are going to be looking for anything to react to and "show off" for their wannabe girlfriend. Furthermore, all you're doing is putting firearms within easy reach of anybody who wants to kill and can't afford to buy there own and sneak it inside. All they have to do is subdue one in the rest room, and they instantly have a 9 shot Glock ... easy peezy

 

Some kids/ teens may indeed be to immature. It goes to my thoughts of this facetwatsninder universe parents are allowing them to immerse themselves.

How terrible it must be to live your life in fear.

 

Stop with all the drama. A little perspective might be called for here.

Every day when I start my clock and drive 600+ miles each day, I have a much greater likelihood of dying on the road in a crash while doing my job then kids in US schools have of getting shot dead.

Everybody who gets in their car to go to the grocery store has a much higher probability of dying than any kid attending a US primary school. Life is full of dangers at every turn. Kids need to learn this, too. The last thing we need to "teach them" is that the government is going to "save them from harm". Nothing could be further from the truth.

Teen kids can take care of themselves. Some will die if this happens again, and it probably will, if they don't learn how to manage and monitor their surroundings. If they are always "protected" in school, they will never develop a sense of self-preservation or situational awareness.

As far as younger kids like Sandy Hook, that's on the teachers and admin staff to be able to react in this situations and provide better over-watch of the situation.

 

There's a difference between understanding there's a probability to die in some strange twist of fate and dreading it every day.

 

Okay man. But from what I understand, a lot of kids knew this POS was a loose cannon and lived nearby but I don't remember hearing any stories of any kids living each hour in abject fear for their life in the days, weeks, months, prior. In fact, some seemed to have taken a rather lighthearted view of the prospect. It seems everyone lived their days there like any other kids in any other school so I fail to see WTH you're talking about ("dreading it every day")

We have laws and we have constitutional rights as American citizens. These rights are what allowed this POS to continue to walk free to do as he pleased. But those rights always apply to everyone else. Locking up people just because they said something that offends most people's sensibilities is opening a door you probably don't want opened. Either we ALL have a Constitution and a Bill of Rights to protect us or NONE of us have this. Choose one.

 

I certainly don't condone locking up someone for saying something. But when a person espouses certain activities and ANNOUNCES REPEATEDLY that he is going to do something. Maybe we should look into what is going on.
The FBI was told on at least two separate occasions according to what i have heard in the news, about this teenage POS.
And they dropped the ball, because of lack of information (ie. no stated date or time).
Make no mistake, I am NOT excusing what happened.

This kid has been booted from several different schools, he and his brother were orphans, having lost their mother just a few months ago. And their father years prior.
He had multiple stressors going on in his life, HE NEEDED HELP. Where were the school councilors, teachers, parents? Who all WANT to help, until its time to do so. This kid gave off tons of clues that something wasn't right.
