I think we see eye to eye on this subject matter. What about gaps in between jobs? because If I do not list everything, then there will be gaps.
School starting, suggestions please.

By Federal law, you MUST account for your last 10 (TEN) years of employment. No if's , ands, or buts. No exceptions. If you have a blank time period, no one CAN hire you. They have no choice, and they WILL check. Understand ? You must work it out so no gaps. Make it look complete.
-
Okay, well there is no way for them to know where I worked. It doesnt show up like a credit report. Thats all i am saying.

Here's the actual legal requirement; most folks here who discuss it don't understand it. But, if you really want to know what a company's requirement is, go to their website and fill out an application; as it varies from one to another. This is taken directly from FMCSA Part 383.35.
(c) The following employment history information for the 10 years preceding the date the application is submitted shall be presented to the prospective employer by the applicant:
(c)(1) A list of the names and addresses of the applicant's previous employers for which the applicant was an operator of a commercial motor vehicle;
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=383.35
The federal government requires you to provide employment history for jobs where you operated a CMV within the last 10 years; not those where you were flipping burgers.Lilbit Thanks this. -
the companies WILL require 10 years. NO GAPS......
you MUST ACCOUNT for all your time, for 10 years.....IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A DRIVER'S POSITION.
your own posting verifies this....(The following employment history information for the 10 years preceding the date the application is submitted shall be presented to the prospective employer by the applicant) -
Okay well there is no way to check my employment history. What an employer has is the information I give him. There is no report like a credit report where you can just request the information on. So when an employer check someones employment history, what they are really doing is verifying what you have told them.
-
So if there is a gap, an an explanation is looking for more hours, that is not acceptable?
-
Actually, your work history can be found. Each employer is different, and they know that someone fresh out of school is NOT going to have 10 years of CMV driving work history. When you start filling out applications, ask how far back they want you to go. I never had to go back 10 years with non-driving jobs.
-
an "explanation" may NOT be enough. you "may need" signed/notarized letters explaining your gaps, and how much "gap space" you are talking about. -
