Only partly true.. no, they do not require a PTDI certification, but just having a CDL in your sweaty little hands doesn't mean bubkus to the vast majority of companies and the PTDI came into existance for the very reason that drivers where showing up at companies with CDL's and absoutely no skill level or knowledge of anything. Insurance companies (and carriers who are self insured) also noticed this and since they are the ones who pay for all the wrecks and started to define what they wanted applicants (student drivers) to know before they showed up at their doorstep with starry eyes and chain drive wallets.

The school I work for we have to send in a report every year to keep our certificate- even thought the certificate does not expire for a few more years we have to send a yearly report and if you are not up to standards they can pull your standings. We also have to keep up with the state standards for the states we teach for to. I do know there are schools that advertise PTDI- but if you look they've lost their standing yet still have a valid certificate on their wall.
