Hey guys I’m a newer driver and I messed up. The right side of my front bumper (underneath part) I scratched pretty badly. I was making an unexpected turn and I guess there was a little curb I didn’t see and/or notice. Bottom line is I messed up. I work at Werner and my question is. Does that count as an accident on my part and do they make me pay for it ?…
Scratched my front bumper pretty badly

Spray paint the scratches and get to work.
Lots of drivers will bash me for this; don't report it. Cover the scratches with some spray paint. Later smear some mud on it.
If you report it, you may have some problems when applying for your next job.Numb, Opus, Snow Hater and 4 others Thank this. -
I'm with Chinatown on this one.
If you're describing what I think you are --these so-called "bumpers" are really just black plastic wrap-around aero "skirts" that extend practically to the ground, anyway. How lame can that possibly be?
Those things are just a "booby trap" for situations just like yours.

I'm with Chinatown, unless there were witnesses then I'd report it.Opus Thanks this.

If it’s on the underside, it’ll be up to them to prove it wasn’t there when you were issued the truck. I really doubt they have any pics of the bottom of the bumper, before you got the truck.
Opus, silverspur and Phoenix Heavy Haul Thank this. -
This was kinda my thoughts too.. I wasn’t gonna say anything then when they asked claim it was already there. Thanks bro

,, well, I never thought,,you sly dog, to GettingTolt, if a well respected person like Chinatown gives ANY advice, you'd best take it. Doesn't happen often, mostly job postings and cute Asian women on a bus seat,,oops, I mean, generally, I don't hear advice from him like this, but I too would put this in the "lesson learned" file, and no real damage. It's how new trucks get to be old trucks, companies know full well this stuff happens.Best course of action here would be, "gee boss, I have no idea, it was like that when I got the truck",,,might stick, point is, you got lucky this time, please be more careful.

No don't do the "lying way". Just fix it and learn from it. Incidents and accidents happen. Lying is about you. You wouldn't want me to damage your equipment and lie about it.

REO6205 Thanks this. -
The only problem with this, other than the basic dishonesty of it, is that if the boss finds out what he did he'll probably get fired. He won't get fired for the incident, he'll get fired for lying. If a driver lies to you about something so minor, he'll lie about the big stuff too.
Once a driver gets pegged for being a liar, they'll never trust him again.Last edited: Sep 7, 2023
Suspect Zero, 201 and ZVar Thank this. -
This thread reminds me of the scene in the movie "Caddyshack"....where Rodney Dangerfield sez...."hey, you scratched my anchor"
