I'm sure you're fine.. Though don't half split down, take your foot off the accelerator, change your mind and split it back up. Truck makes a hell of a noise..

And worst case scenario, pull off and start all over again. If you are that high up the tree already missing a gear you find one that's valid. Quickly and GENTLY.

Lesson two in school. Always keep your mind on your shifting with a manual. Think about it more than you think about wife, special other etc. Always have your mind on what gear you are in, what you are doing at the moment and leave it be if shes rolling nicely. Don't play with it.

I don't know where the automatic Ishift sstuff gets into the talk, this is a manual transmission here. Autos you push a button and drive off. They will do their own thing most of the time.

Truck transmissions have or would have been ground to nothing in the old days by everyone taking a turn at it in school. It's amazing what they can take. But if you force it into a ratio that is not appropriate for the road speed, load etc. You potentially can do some big time damage. Usually warned with a huge CLUNK as you get into a gear and that lurch.

DO not whatever you do take your clutch out in that gear. Get back into nuetral and back into the normal gear you were in before you got bored or something and want to play and learn with it.

Learning is by doing over and over and over until you can go up and down the entire tree properly without that tractor making noises that are not welcome.

This is just a top of the ice burg thinking. There is a alot more detail down below. The devil dances on the details.

There is a enormous amount of engineering going on down there, and huge forces also potentially. I have self destructed tractors in the rears before by shifting very badly. It's usually a BOOM followed by the chain dragging clank clank clank of death as you slow to a stop on the side in no gear at all.

Fixing to be expensive enough after a tow to a shop that might result in you losing your job. Its that important.

For me, my specaility in 13's and 15's are under drives. What happens is when you hit a hill in top gear big enough to pull your rpms down to torque and have to downshift? Not just yet. Lift throttle all the way, wait two heartbeats for her to come with the air and floor it. She will shift down half a gear until you now have to physically shift down a gear. Usually it's only available in the top two gears or so in my experience however brief with them.

If you ever see a tractor or dump truck with a red splitter halfway down the shift column then you potentially are facing a two speed rear which has to be shifted every gear. So it gets busy. But I'll shut up now. There are a thousand ways to build a truck and one way to do it right.
