I have been getting the hot exhaust light in my new Columbia. Top RPM cruising is 1500, top RPM it will let me go to is 1700. My buddy had some warranty work done by Frieghtliner and now can take it to 2000 RPM. I know in the Swift handbook it says not to go above 1700 because it uses too much fuel. It dosen't surprise me they would set the rev limiter soo low.

That just shows these megacarrier bean counters don't know squat about spec'ing trucks . Are Swift trucks cranking 1700 rpm to go 65 m.p.h. ? That's about 1450 for my truck . It also shows what BS speed limiters are . I probably use less fuel going 70 than USX , Swift , and Schneider use going 65 , especially the way their drivers run up on slower traffic , brake , switch lanes , then hammer down again . When I'm running the center lane in moderate traffic running a steady 55 -60 m.ph. I've lost count of how many of those dummies coming flying up on my right side then have to drop back because of ramp traffic .

That is governed at 62mph. It is one of the new "clean fleet" trucks with green lettering. The only thing I like is the ride. I miss my FLD. It probably would have rode nice if they would just replace the shocks now and then. They just won't do it until they are literally in two pieces.

425 hp 1550 lbs. Mack 10 speed . It'll run 75 but we keep it at the sweet spot 1400-1500 rpm's 63-68 m.p.h. . The boss treats us right . We try to keep his operating cost down . He has a lot of miles behind the wheel an he won't govern his trucks unless regulation force it . We're usually only grossing about 76,000 lbs. loaded . Half the miles are empty - dedicated trailers .

Sounds like the regen process for the DPF (you said new truck). My prev mentor has a 2009 Columbia and that light came on periodically when it was going through regen.

Nope, not the regen, I know what that is. I wish it had a pyrometer to let me see how "hot" it really is getting. I never really liked the Columbia's small grill, and the heat that come out from under the cab, WOW, not much room to breath.
