I've been wondering this for awhile. Will DOT check my seat belt light on the dash on a level 1? I always wear my belt, no issue there, so i'll never get a ticket for that, but how thoroughly do they check in the cab/dash lights, etc. on a level 1. I haven't had one in years and don't remember.
My Volvo has a common Volvo problem, the switch in the seat belt latch wears out and the beeper dings constantly. Volvo wants to sell me a $200 latch, not in a hurry to do that, so I just unplugged it under the carpet and stuck a paper clip in it. No light, no ding now. The seat belt light does come on with ignition and then goes out, it's not on all the time. Will DOT look for this?

I’ve never had them check anything like that, they usually just wanna check your low air warning, flashers, lights, high beams, brake lights, signals, etc. Never had anyone go that in-depth to check a seat belt light

Just went through part 393 and there is no mention of needing a seat belt warning light.
There is reference to 49 CFR §571.209 and 571.210 and I went there also. Still didn't see anything about a warning light required.
Might want to peruse them yourself and I just skimmed over.86scotty Thanks this. -
I’d just be curious if it would affect your airbag... like a passenger airbag in my personal vehicle doesn’t work if the seatbelt isn’t latched..

Tell them to pound sand.

Omg, a level one?
Really you don't know the new regs for level one and seat belt lights?
So they will check to see if the bulbs are working and have you demonstrate the proper use of seat belts for pregnant women.
If you don't pass, they write you up and take your fuel card points away. But if you can't demonstrate the lights, then they will put you out of service and force you to call road service, not the smart one but the guy who can't figure out why the torx screws won't come out with a philips screw driver, so he drills them out with his 5/16ths drill bit to see if your bulbs are good or not.
That's what the new regs are all about ... safety of pregnant women.
And bulbsrollin coal, 86scotty and HoneyBadger67 Thank this. -
Thanks everyone......and Ridgeline especially. If a pregnant woman comes near my truck I’m jumping out.

I’m screwed. I don’t even have a seatbelt light. Guess I better wire one in, maybe use a glass lens’s watermelon light on my ceiling.
DTP Thanks this. -
You’re going to need an alarm to go along with that light...perhaps a foghorn will suffice..under your seat of course.Long FLD Thanks this.
