I think most people are just excited that this issue is being addressed, as am I. But, many are not listening to what is being said.
They are not eliminating non-domiciled CDLs in anyway. In fact all they did was reiterate the rules already on the books, with one exception: they are giving the illegals that violated the laws TWO YEARS to comply.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -

Seems about right. Everyone rags on eastern European truckers, hell no. The problem these days isn't them. These days I smell more curry powder than urine in the parking lot of truckstop. That should tell you all you need to know about the downfall and cheap rates of US trucking.El Hueso, bullhaulerswife, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -

I think that withholding highway funds is a long-term solution that needs Congress to approve; he doesn't have the power right now for that. In the short term, he has the power, as I said, to stop interstate authorities of a specific state based on the state's compliance with FMCSA/US DoT regulations; it is just like an airline not complying and being shut down.
While it is a great thing he is talking about it, he and the US DoT legal people are trying to get a solid court-proof action to do something that has already been addressed by the courts many times and ruled in favor of the US DoT.
What I think is happening is he is facing backlash from the ATA and other groups plus the states are chiming in on this idea that they have to follow new rules when they don't want to.
