Securing and/or restraining your pallet jack....

    We use the rubber block thing at UPSF; Now one other good thing about it is it can also double as a door stop---this comes in very handy throughout the day.

    Maybe I'm missing something but all I do is put pallet jack against wall of trailer and stick load bar in it floor to roof,never had a problem.

    Couple other good uses for block of wood are to check your tires, to use it as a hammering device like chipping off ice from trailers or landing gear, an extra support for broken pallets (because we all know how EXTRA careful those forklift drivers are :rolleyes: ), and it's something you don't have to chain up at the end of the day, along with your pallet jack.

    i will say the rubber chock thing works well. The only time it has failed is when you go over a serious bump very fast.

    My time doing this work was pre-rubber chock, if I had any loads at least one fork was captive in it (airfreight, so small weird loads sometimes), otherwise flipped and tucked in a front corner.

    I've always just stuck a load bar though the handle,Surprisingly never had a problem.I figured if the freight was gonna come lose it was gonna be awesome bad... Hand pallet coming through the trailer all angles would be embarrassment. Always made sure that pallet jack was secure, Batted 1,000 on that.

    block of wood is good with secondary securement, but thats just another piece of debris I'd be tripping over. Gravity isn't a friend, Neither is my driving, :)

    I don't trip over mine anymore. I've been using it too long.

    And it's easy to spot the drivers that don't bother to do any of this. The bottom trailer door panel is always nearly broken in half. :confused:

    We literally had no way to restrain our jacks. If you couldn't get it in under a heavy pallet, blocking it or tipping it was the only alternative.
    And yes, I did have some problems with that. I lost a pallet jack off the truck one time. Long story made short, I came out of a customer just insanely angry, jumped in the truck and took off. Hadn't closed the door before throwing my little temper tantrum, nor restrained the jack. I learned a lesson that day.
