Depends on the crane. You could get the tray, tray weights, carbody weights, side weights. Counter weight comes in all shapes and sizes.

They almost always have securement points and the weight right on them. I cannot think of any that dont.

  4. Op did your dispatcher tell you what your weight was for this pickup?

I haul them all the time. And they usually throw part of the jib section of the crane on top of the counterweights out here in Cali. You can you either, straps or chains, if you use straps, use softeners. If the counterweights are all concrete, you can still use either but if you use chains, I recommend the metal corners or else the chain will dig into the concrete eventually.
All in all, it's an easy load driver. Nothing to worry about. You should see what they put on me when I haul those tower cranes. The swirling ring, cab, counterjib double stack, inverted jib sections. But again, your load is a piece a cake.

    Lepton1 and Ozdriver Thank this.

Like this Mack Titan on the same job I was on. He had 60 tons of counterweights but at first glance you think it's a light load.

Well the load got postponed until 8am tomorrow. Still haven't figured out what type or how many Counterweights it'll be. Dispatch thinks it's going to be 3, each about 6'x4' and about 18" tall. Laid flat on deck. They aren't sure though. I contacted the shipper and left a message but didn't hear back.
I'll try and post a pic when there are loading.

Let's see driver, we are going to put on two counterweights. We were going to put a boom section on but now you are getting the block, the ball, rigging box, the steps off the tracks, our water cooler, and two bags of recycled aluminum cans.

Oxbow, Al. Roper, RGN and 10 others Thank this.
