I got threw out of Alcoa in Knoxville many years ago because I would not strap lay down alumiun coils in coil racks loaded eye to the side ( 2 24000lb coils ) because in an accident situation I felt the straps could break or be sheared off.Malone said safety first if it is not safe we will not haul it. 20 minutes later malone said we have to do what our customer wants so I had Alcoa unload them and I left. Alcoa banned me from that plant saying I could never load there agin. That lasted about a week. what I gathered from Malone and all other trucking compaines is safety first unless there is money involved then safety does not matter. What do you guys say?
Securing loads with just straps?

Straps are all that I have, but I concentrate on construction materials headed to job-sites and some loads to stores in the outside garden/building materials areas. I can see how if you want to have the utmost flexibility, you need both.
-
I get that but I have seen D9's on rail wagons , 200t transformers and a number of large oversize loads secured properly with straps.
Just pointing out that with the correct type straps it is possible.
If there is no specific reason for not using chains then I don't see the point. -
Yes indeed
Hey I went past your yard the other day hauling north, nice lot! -
Thanks...if it was during he week it was probably pretty empty. Much more interesting on the weekend when all the iron is in loaded up with more iron.

Yep, Thursday after noon.
I was pulling a OS truck up and over 151, folks around your area get a lil funny when you do not go up that hill fast cross the bridge. LOL -
Funny....I go home that way every day. We live in IL, but it is faster to go through WI to get there. I am one of those people that is usually in a hurry going up that hill. Interestingly, I go much slower on the way to gym/work at 5AM than I do up the hill on the way home at 5PM.

Yup safety first , unless it costs a multi national Corp time and or money. And if you say anything as the lowly driver you are the problem. Had it happen more than once. -
yup safety first unless the load pays too well then it's 'do what you can'. All BS. If that situation occurs now I tie it down according to what I feel is safe and if they don't like it they can take it off me and at that point it's on them.
