I have gotten two fired at a place we cross-docked in NJ. Helps when you know everyone in the place. Both guards were on power trips and didn't like to follow company policy.
The other place I cross-docked in NJ I knew every guard by first name and they knew me. Got to be good friends with the day light supervisor.

The worst time I had was my first time at the C&S warehouse in Carteret, NJ.
Big ole "momma type"..
I never saw her anymore after that first time.
They suck, pure plain and simple, they hate their low wage job, which they should be LUCKY they GOT a job!!
Bribery may (or may not) get you anywhere's with them. But a couple of "tootsie pops" can go a long way!!!
Other than that, just remember, you get paid MORE than THOSE slobs!!
Ever see one (or more) with thier shirts hanging out of thier pants, or thier ties undone??? -
They were a pet peeve of mine when I was a driver.
Not all but there you only need a few.
The ones that open a gate 2 inches wider than the truck even though you are turning in at 90 degrees because its to much effort to open it the other 6 feet.
I once got out of my truck and opened the gate myself at a Caterpillar manufacturing plant.
It was a Sunday and the guards were to busy watching a football match to attend to me.
When I returned to exit the plant with a grader they started to threaten me for entering with out permission.
I shocked them when I begged them to call their supervisor , I added that we should get the plant manager involved as well.
We could then see who got their ### chewed and possibly fired for letting me get out of my truck , open the gate then drive in with out one of them coming to do their job.
I have many more stories as to why they are on my pet peeve list. -
I had one at one of the C&S warehouses in Massachusetts. I unloaded a partial load, walked to the other end of the building to get my bills, drove to the gate, and Mr.security guard asked me how many pallets i had on, then tells me i have to go back inside because they didn't note how many pallets i was leaving with. Soooo i turn around, walk half way around the building, get the paperwork properly filled out, and go to the gate. I hand it to him, and he Say's that i'm all set. I said ain't you gonna get in and count my pallets? he said nope, you're all set. I F'in when off on him..

I had a issue one time in Laredo, Tx Got there signed in at 8am for a noon unload. Was told it was ok to arrive early. Set there till 4 pm waiting on Mexican customs to break seal on load of potatos. Had told dock foreman I had to load at 5 pm at Dole accross town. Long story short. Finally DM told me to go drop load on yard and get empty for next load. I went in told them I was leaving with load it would be back tomorrow. Dock Boss said "No! I am gonna unload you next in 30 minutes." I said "You still ain't signed for load I'm gone." Rent-a-cop come running out slammed gate and locked it in front of me. I got out he refuesed to open it. I said "Fine more than one way to get out of here" He drew his weapon and told me not to go back to dock. I climbed in truck. Grabbed my cell dialed 911 told the dispatch I was being held hostage at gunpoint. 4 min later police along with a fedral Martial arrived. Asked what was happening. The Dock boss and security said I was being detained tiill i unloaded. Officer said "Have you signed for load yet?" he said Nope. Looks at me and ask if I want to prosicute. I laugh and say "Yea I do." Both were arrested . Guard for unlawful detaining, (A form of Kidnapping) Boss for Conspericy to Kidnap.
They plea bargined and I did not have to go to court. Prosicuter said was a slam dunk!
I guess they will think twice before they try that again.misterG, double_r, nascarchuck and 1 other person Thank this. -

The guards at C&S wholesale in York, PA were flat out lazy and rude. I'll never go back there again what a nightmare.

The OTR driver might make more in one week due to the fact the driver is working 12-15 hours per day, and working up to seven days per week.
The security guard is going home after their shift, with 2 days off per week.
OTR driver lives in truck 2-3 weeks on average.
