Cant remember where I was but the guard was a guy about early 20's.

He had just come on duty and his eyes were almost bleeding they were so bloodshot. He would say off the wall weird things that made no sense. He told me that he ate a bunch of marijuana brownies and smoke dope before he came in. He was fried!

In hindsight I should had said something but I didnt.

essentially security guards do nothing they produce nothing and have no accomplishment to take personal pride in. that surly rudeness is an expression of dissatisfaction with their own lives and choices- not yours. when you meet a guard like that, don t allow this behaivour to get under your skin, think to yourself " I'm glad Im not you; I'm glad I don t have your lousy job"- believe me, it works- when you realize that, you'll be telling him to have a nice day as you drive away, and you'll mean it.

Very true. They are also usually paid very poorly, and have only the minimum training required by law. Contract security outfits sure aren't going to spend a penny they are not forced to spend. Most of these folks are either retired from something else, or are wannabe cops. Often, wannabes that could not cut it in going into law enforcement.

And a lot of times, it goes right back to the same thing we have to deal with, and that is INSURANCE COMPANIES. The only reason that a lot of these companies even have security guards is to reduce their insurance premiums.

I hit the same security guard all the time at a food wharehouse in NJ. He's in his mid 70's and always miserable. One day he caught me in the wrong mood and I asked him why is he so miserable all the time. His answer was his only income is a small s/s check and this job and he has to work this job until he dies, don't know if he's kidding or not but I take it easy on him now.

ALL security officers aren't bad, mean, rude individuals, as you all are depicting them. They have a job to do, just like you do. Sure, you're going to come across a few that don't know their arse from a hole in the ground. But, how many shipping/receiving clerks have you seen that are the same way?
