There are a few places where you have potential for being bothered at night. If it's decent weather and I have the windows open for venting, then I tend to check before going to sleep, making sure the doors are locked, the computer is tucked aay out of sight, and that my wallet is tucked away in a spot not visible from outside. I also make sure that I am in a reasonably safe spot, not parking in total darkness or where I am vulnerable to being broken into. I don't pull cargo that can be stolen, so I don't have to worry about someone breaking into the trailer. I take reasonable precautions, and have a knife and a heavy hammer located ithin reach in the truck when I am sleeping. Never had any problems so far.
Security when resting on the road?

I worry more about being bothered out of the truck than in. If I'm locked inside and a break-in occurs there will be hello to pay because at that point I will be scared, armed, and dangerous.
What I fear most is the person(s) who might approach in a friendly, non-threatening manner, get close, then try to roll, or mug me. I probably miss meeting a lot of nice folks because of my suspicious nature. -
I would carry some of the potent pepper spray that the Police use when walking or in your truck. A shot of it in the face restricts breathing and swells the eyes shut.

downside is if they are alergic and die... its your ### on the line for it.
i considered getting that stuff until it was explained to me by a law enforcment officer.
when they use it they have to be able to get water to rinse the stuff out of the eyes of the suspect to prevent any harm if they are allergic. and they have to receive special training on its use for just such a reason too.
it sucks. the law that is. if someone attacks me.. and i hurt them... its my fault
-
Yup, never understood that either. Seems that the attacker has more rights that the person being attacked. :smt017

Better to be "tried by 12," than carried by six. . .

Amen to that! A legal sized knife and a good tire thumper will accompany my 12 years martial arts training when I'm on the road. And a mugger/theif doesn't have a leg to stand on in court if you beat them into the ground in self defense. If they intrude into your vehicle uninvited you are within your full rights to beat them back into the parking lot.

As a law school drop out and a self defenses teacher who is versed on the laws of pepper spray if a man/woman attacks you and you spray them it is not your foult if they die you had reasonable cause to believe that the may kill you (well maybe not too tall i wouldn't attack you if you were blind and only had one arm
) so if they attack you fight and fight hard there not afraid to kill you so don't be afraid to kill them
well that's all for now any questions just ask (my name may be creeyoldguy but im 21 lol just the first thing that poped in my head
)

If I stop at night, I always look for rest areas, etc. where there are other trucks so that I am not alone. But, I also have a large knife and I used to have pepper spray as well.

I never worry about it.
In fact tonight, I am the only vehicle on the lot in Fort Worth where I am delivering in the morning.
If you have to worry about it, you need to change jobs.
I have no weapons either.
