Seeking Driver Hiring Advice

Thats what I was thinking, just a little slow this weekend....

If you were a driver for 5 years you should know what is needed in the driver qualification file... You had to go through it, no differen.

 

Just checked this out..are these to be used as templates or can small companies print them out and have driver fill out with application?

 

And use them. An application that has all the information you need is not acceptable. Have to use the right forum.

We use Corra (www.corragroup.com). Fairly cheap.

Piece of advice. You need to verify employment and checks can take some time. Make sure your drivers have tax documents as back-up when coming to orientation. So if Corra can't get information completed you can still let the driver roll.

 

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding this..what did you mean by "an application that hasall the information is not acceptable"? Because having the information and the driver filling it out is the way to do it right? I'm asking can I physically print those out and have my driver fill them out or do I need to revise them?

Also; is orientation mandatory? Suppose "xyz trucking llc" is running from a spare bedroom in a house. Where would the orientation take place? Or can you tell the driver what is expected from them during "interview"?

Are you going to pay using a 1099, or are you going to set up an actual company setting?

Are you leased on to another carrier, and putting these additional drivers (trucks) in the lease as well?

If you are leased onto another carrier (company), you might be able to have their HR (for an agreed fee of course) do the background, use their drug screen process, and get the DMV print out for each driver you could be looking at. Also, the carrier you might be leased to might have to authorize any driver you wish to hire.

 

Then you are setting up a "company payroll".

Better get all the "requirements" you will have to have in place....you will be responsible for the matching Social Security withholding, quarterly tax deposits (both State and Fed), and the list goes on and on and on....think Everready Bunnie!

Contact a Better Business Bureau office, or EEOC to get all your ducks in a row!
