I know there is no emoticon for it, but....uh, this is me "standing corrected". I did just what you said about ...reading the green book. It only mentions "regrooved" tires as being improper for steer use on non-passenger carrying CMVs, as a previous poster noted.
In all of the pretrip inspection instruction I have seen, however, the steers are called out as being the same size/type and not regrooved/recapped/retreads. This is just odd. Is it to cover all bases, regardless of the type of CMV you may be operating? That is my suspicion. It does make sense, though, to just use new tires,......but.....this is me, graciously standing corrected. Your attention to detail is appreciated.
