do you not get tickets for parking on the side of the road or street ? or am I misunderstanding what that term means in trucking
-
You can, but most of the time they don't bother you. You will understand that no parking signs are for the scaredy cats. Real truckers park where they want too. Yeeeeee hawww
Elvenhome21 Thanks this. -
so really being serious here if your out and you run out of hours you can drive you can park on the side of the road/highway if there is no where else ?
-
On the serious note. I was in an industrial park area, and I was in front of no parking signs, but I wasn't bothered. I would have liked to take my break elsewhere but since I arrived that night and already had 11 or so hours down when I got loaded. I just figured I'll stay there since I wasn't bothered that night and only had 2 hr's left on the 70. Would only have to knock out 23 hrs and have a fresh 70. Also the street didn't have much traffic, and I was scoping out some places close by even a dock that I could get in if I was bothered by the cops. I have never knock on wood had a parking ticket and I have been in front of a many of no parking signs. Even turned the wrong direction in front of a customer in NYC, but that's the only way you are going to get in that dock. I have heard some have gotten tickets doing that, but so far not me.

I wouldn't suggest you park on the side of the road if you ran out of hours. Maybe a not so busy on or off ramp. They give you leeway to get to a safe haven if its in reasonable distance. Now if you are tired and you can't keep your eyes open. I would pull off and put the triangles out. You can be held responsible if somebody runs into the back of you though. So always cover your butt.

ok so say your parked somewhere like that and u already drove your hours for the day would the cops make you move the truck or what I mean you already drove your 11 hours for the day I have wondered about things like that getting out in the middle of nowhere when your hours of service run out for the day being a new driver at first your not going to know where the nearest town or truck stop is all that takes exp but I also know you stop on the 10th hour if u have too to keep from running out of time

Hadnt heard about the wire? Ive heard of drivers carrying a short piece of pipe(could easily fool somebody as a gun in the dark).I always carried a good sized knife clipped on my pocket. One driver had a mean looking dog that went everywhere he did. That hammer idea is pretty good to. Most meth heads know most any trucker carrys some type of weapon and doesnt have any real money on him, because they tried trucking in the past,or someone they knew tried trucking and starved out.Didn't you see Texas Chainsaw Massacre when that ole boy jumped out and hurled that hammer ,hit leatherface right in the forehead. Seriously I know the concern. I had to stay in a dock overnight in Atlantic City by an alley. Not much light around. I put my seatbelts thru the doorhandles and connected them(no one can open your doors).

not to worried about the sleepy part just the other things like being 10.5 in and there nearest town is an hour a way tings like that I been thinking my safe place if needed I would find the nearest walmart

and when it comes to pipes chains and wire you cant walk around the parking lot with those things in your hands so unless there at your truck what good does those things do ? I think I will get a stun gun like cops use that shoot the wires out about 20 feet or something and a can of mace but I never have had a problem with anyone messing with me for the most part im the biggest person around lol I been told I just have a look like don't #### with me lol
