Well I started this career of being a truck driver and I’m honestly concerned about this. I’m 23 and don’t really have any other skills and was unable to finish college due to financial reasons. If driverless technology does displace is drivers do you think there will be a mass effort to retrain/re educated the displaced workers?
Looking at doing online college after I get my life back on track.

I'm really torn on "self driving technology". Is it really worth all the projected investment, disruption and upheaval just so people can legally masturbate or see what all their friends had for dinner last night or exchange pet photos on their way to work in the morning ? I'm not sure.
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
This one made me chuckle, and I suppose, someone in this situation could be concerned, but let me tell you, kid, trucks and their operators will be hammering the pavement for years to come. These self driving trucks MIGHT be used in very limited places, out in the desert,,or Illinois maybe, but you have one of the most secure jobs in the world. Wallymart always gonna need their strawberries,,or whatever. You'll be fine, now quit worrying and get to work,,,
Chuck Humbuckers, Naptown, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -

Tesla cars have a few accidents and usually it’s a bad one because it just rams right thru the obstacle. Now imagine a big rig.... now put that not fully developed software onto the mountain backroads with narrow lanes, hairpin turns, faded lines, no shoulder, and steep grades. I can only see driverless big rigs going to popular city to city roads.
Big issue with self driving tech is it’s depending on the next guy being competent and that’s the biggest flaw. Driverless vehicles should be on roads designated for driverless vehicles only then you’ll probably see nearly perfect track records....until a sensor fails.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.
