Well, I’m eating my words today. We have one hotshot trailer that is handy in the winter up here. Snow tires on the trailer and truck and easy to chain. It loaded behind our other trucks yesterday, which loaded and headed off. The rate con had 3 new units at 31’ total and 14,880. Company loaded them on and my driver shot me a pic saying they loaded all the way to the end of the ramps. He was last to load and got shoved out of the yard before he could get a strap or chain on so they could lock up. He pulled over after a ginger drive and chained and strapped. Hit the scale at 24,750 of load. Easy with anything else, but the hotshot maxes at 16,400 and is usually just a single unit that a client needs brought over the pass that day. So, there is definitely benefit to self loading, as I guess everything has its plusses and minuses.

Move most machines on stepframe trailers in UK,long reach us 42t 22m,amphibious excavator wasn't much fun to put on trailer, first time I'd driven it lol
PPLC, Gearjammin' Penguin, cke and 11 others Thank this. -
Exactly why I’m not happy seeing a pencil pusher trying to load a dozer / excavator on my lowboy. Really ticks me to see some dips!!t trying to straighten up after he’s on the front of the trailer, instead of before he gets on the ramps…. -
Picked this one up in Panther, WV…. in the head of a holler. Once the tire shop got the flat fixed it had to be driven 2 miles, that’s as close as I could get with my rig.
Battery box lid was left off, the chickens had laid eggs in it over the years, and you could slightly smell the stench.
The 1st part of the drive was a narrow dirt road to get to asphalt.
It was a dandy trip, never know what you will find…..

those are the fun ones, and also the ones you can’t get enough of if you change by the hour… of course if you don’t, well you probably didn’t have a very good day.PPLC, cke, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 2 others Thank this.

I hauled an old D8 one time. It was a very old straight shift cable dozer. The guy had it running when I got there, so I got on it to load and found out quick it has something seriously wrong with the steering clutches. That thing would just go where it wanted to and there was almost no steering control. I told the guy that if that thing was going on my trailer, he was going to have to load it. He was so nervous I could see his knees shacking, but after several attempts he finally got it on there good enough to chain down.

Who unloaded it?

Same guy. It was a local move and the owner of it met me where we picked it up and was there where we delivered it.PPLC, beastr123, cke and 1 other person Thank this.

I went to pick up a partial telehandler yesterday which was supposed to be easy money and I had to turn it down. Thing had a live leak of hydraulic fluid that was turning into a faucet-like stream once the ignition was on. I said to myself I don’t need that problem, either spilling load tickets or the fluid going over my axles and brakes, or steering to stop responding while it’s halfway loaded or unloaded. Thank God I only put like 5 extra miles to get to it.
PPLC, cke, beastr123 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Wipe and dip twice. Get two good readings..cke Thanks this.
