Personally, I would rather load my own equipment. Of course newer equipment is so much easier to load and handles so much better, but with the older stuff you just have to take your time.
loaded a brand new D8 the other day and it was a cream puff. Those wore out old excavators are the ones you got to keep an eye on , especially loading over the back on a Murray.

Every shop I've worked at, driver loads/unloads the equipment. We were not allowed to do it because of liability was what I was told.

Check fluids. If it runs I load it.
Any leaks of any kind I don’t.
weigh masters don’t like leaks, don’t ask me how I learned that.
Nothing gets pushed on or off my trailer, another hard lesson. Just part of the job. -
