    Not sure. Last I heard the Teamsters managed to get some judge to rule their current O/O's were employees, in the context of the ongoing negotiations. If you can call them that. More like "Cave to our demands or we will shut you down!" Rumor was they were going to call a strike...

    Years ago on the east coast, all the major auto carriers had O/O in their Import divisions running out of the Ports. And all the O/O's were Teamster. Leaseway, NuCar, ARCO, KAT, Dallas & Mavis, et al.

    I remember the Allied o/o's. I think all those guys ran under two contracts, one as driver/employee, the other as truck owner.

    Bingo.
    They were the O/O's that were with Ryder aka Commercial Carriers when they got absorbed into Allied.

    Yup, truck was paid a set rate and driver was paid prevailing wage and benefits equal to their employee drivers, worked out real well for a few of my friends in New Jersey and New York.
