You paid for the tag so why in the world would you leave it on the truck?

When I retired and sold my truck, tag off,and truck didn't leave my driveway till titled in next owners name, zero liability. We are such a litigious society anymore, why would you dare send something away with your name still attached to it?New owner could have a wreck in the first minutes when it leaves. If it has your plate on it,guess who's getting sued.

Take your tag off the truck, its business not personal. If he want to save up some money tell him to let the carrier he's leasing onto put tags on the truck until he can come up with the money to get his own.

Remove the tags. The new owner will either need to get his own tags or get tags from whomever he leases to. You own the civil liability if anything happens on your tags. The new owner of the truck can get cited for some form of failure to register/operating under registration of previous owner. In any case, the truck gets parked and/or towed until he gets the registration updated.

It crossed your mind to lease it to him. Crazy idea. Engine takes a crap. Who pays for that? He wants to go to Nevada because he needs a vacation and vacations are more important than paying bills. You say you are friends. Wrong. You were friends. And all the other very good reasons to remove the tag. He wants to go trucking so let him foot the bills.
