Yes it’s got to be re-registered as a RV to be legal!

 

Not really. He can pull personal property with a CMV. He just needs to be sure to treat it as a CMV and follow all laws that govern it. Part of those laws are he can use it for personal use, but it's still a CMV.

 

Not too sure so don’t quote me but I also think you’ll have to follow stricter length limits also

 

I'm thinking a couple phone calls to the California and Oregon DOT would have been prudent before just jumping in and running through... That's just me, though.
Sounds like they let you through ok in the end...

 

If your plates and registration says it is a commercial vehicle you need to stop. If you were bobtail in that same vehicle you would have to stop at the scale if your Pre Pass was red or didn’t light up. The same tractor with RV tags and registration would exempt you. What you are towing does not exempt you.

 

If it was me and there was any doubt, I’d pull in.
