Werner is sure taking their time to get back to me. They have already cleared my app (pending UA and Phys) and I am just waiting for a mission. Anyone who has a good backup company is welcome to put it out there. I need an option if this takes too long.

Maverick is also a good flatbed company. You won't find much negative about them on the boards. Best of luck, and one vet to another, thanks for your service!

Doesnt need to be flatbed, I like tanker too, or whatever as long as they treat ya right and give you miles.

I would try to avoid the mega-carriers at all costs! You are going to have much better success working for a small to medium size company. Ask yourself if you think it is worth working for a company that has to spend millions of dollars in advertising to get people to work for them. Something wrong with that picture. The companies that aren't advertising as much = lower driver turnover rate = happier drivers! Take your time and do your homework. I believe you to be a fairly smart individual. The companies you do fill out apps for make sure you call them daily to check on your app status. They get hundreds of apps a day so make yourself standout. Unless they tell you otherwise. The squeaky wheel gets the grease! Check out this website. Just type in where you live and it will give you a list of companies hiring in your area.

Good luck to you soldier!Semper Fidelity and GasHauler Thank this. -
Are you retired? I ask because if you have some income coming in that allows to to search for a better job than just to settle. Sure it's easy to get on with the big companies but will you be happy?
You've got to start over and look to the future. You have 2 things going for you that most don't. If you've retired you have some money coming in and you service pays off. A lot of companies like prior service members because we are regimented and don't give much back talk and they like that. They know you'll take responsible actions where some kids just don't give a #####.
When it comes time for finding a job you don't have to take the first one that comes along. I suggest you make a list of goals and wants then get out and search for that company. Be persistent and make up a resume. Just remember a resume must be able to be understood by all. Try to convert you military experience to civilian terms.
What I suggest is making a list of trucking companies you would like to work for. And not just the ones from the internet. Ones that have drivers that stay there because of benefits and pay. Also a company that treats their drivers with respect is a plus. You'll never find or know those companies unless you get out and find out for yourself. That's where you pay comes in. You can download companies from places like Fleet Directory and even from some that are just listed by themselves on the net but make a visit. Shoot high and work down. We see so
many new drivers that just go to the recruiters and take what they give them. It's funny because we don't hear from these guys anymore.
To me I would like to think I tried every possibility I could to find work before I had to settle. Then there's no doudt in my mind and the case of the if's wouldn't be there. You never know you might walk into a small company with great pay and good benefits and they need a driver right then. With your military experience they just might take the chance.
There's a ton of more you'll need to do but think big and go for the best. One thought comes to mind are companies that haul for the government where the driver needs a clearance. You might save that company some money. The possiblities are almost endless.
I'll help as much as I can just for the simple fact I'm a Seabee and you're a Marine. It goes without question.Semper Fidelity Thanks this. -

I gotta tell ya, SEABEE's are hard working bunch. The best treatment I had in the Marines was being attached to the Navy (on ship and otherwise). Great chow, great bunch of men and women in the Navy! Keep in Touch, GasHauler.
