I wish some of these guys who don't drive would stop giving these guys advice. You aren't the one out here who have to run into ditches when they go crazy. I bet this is what happened to that guy in Amarillo a few months ago who was trying to run troopers off the road, then went into the petro and tried to run over people.

Really if you have depression issue's this is really not the industry to get into, because it will only get worse. A cdl from a driving school is not going to help you either. You just pay for something you can't use because nobody is going to trust you in their truck.

+1 on this. Prime's doctor is notorious for sending people home over medication. Find out what you need from your doctor, get it done, and they'll let you come back.

Here's the dilly. You opened your mouth and let the stupid fall out. Happens to the best of us. BUT!!! You're on anti depressants AND have an admitted drinking problem. Would you hire you??? Look at this from their standpoint. They are hiring the quickest way to a lawsuit. And before I get railed on for being "mean" or whatever, facts are facts. He's named several issues that should be disqualifying. You wanna drive a truck or is it the last resort for you? Cause if you want to drive then you should want to clean up.

You need to check your DAC to see what Prime put on there. Prime recently lost a big lawsuit where they were convicted of putting false information and lies on drivers DAC reports. Prime is a borderline outlaw company, you need to get a copy of your DAC and see what they put on there.

he has no cdl, dont you have to have a cdl to have a dac record?

I agree with some, trucking is not for the depressed individuals, when I was OTR and away from my wife and kids for long periods of time my depression was growing and started to get the better for me at times. Lucky these days im more local and home more often so that helped greatly.

On the drinking how would they even know if someone was sober for a year? Also like others said you never offer info you dont have to, my first physical I volunteered info about my sleep apnea and got 1 year, just renewed it and left out the sleep stuff and they said I was healthy so gave me 2 years. Sometimes you just need to keep your mouth shut unless your asked about something specific and never add extra details to it.

I just did my physical and the had a whole sheet for sleep apnea that I had to fill out and they still measured my neck and took my weight, but I was just under the sleep study requirement. So guess you got off pretty easy Wolfy. -

you must be of he opinion that someone with depression is crazy as a loon? who goes off like abomb and is just an instant away from going serial killer?

that attitude is the exact reason many folks never get a little help for their depression? its the stigma attached to it. Depression is based in a chemical imbalance, most anti depression drugs regulate serotonin levels.

and as far as side effects, just read them for simple over the counter medications, blood pressure meds, etc.

I guess I see and have saw so many people able to work who find many excuses for not working, I just hate to see a fellow who wants to work, cant work.

honestly I would rather have a guy on depression meds in the next lane to me than a guy not on meds .

it the guy running around that needs meds and isn't on meds that you need to worry about. which is the more likely scenario with the guy in Amarillo, a better solution would be for a guy like you who knows nothing about depression to stop giving advice

Wow 4 pages of views from both sides of the fence, I first want to thank everyone for taking the time to reply no matter your opinion. Right now I think the best thing to do is double check my DAC, if I have one, no idea , lol. Then go from there. In response to one of the posts , this is not a last resort, this is something I want to do, going down the road being out and about somewhere different is plain relaxing to me, only thing better is finding a new trail in my Jeep. Ive spent the last 8 years doing engineering and heavy industrial maintenance and grew sick of the corporate machine, so I wanted to give the trucking industry a try while I was still single with no kids. Guess now I just have to keep researching and see what the Lord has in store for me.

TallOkie, I just graduated from Central Tech in Drumright a month ago. The "Oklahoma Workforce" which I think is part of the state employment agency, will finance tuition to Central Tech. The only problem right now is they are out of funding until July, or at least that's what they told me back last December, wouldn't hurt to give them a call and see. Also try calling John Thorpe at Central Tech and see what he says, he may have some ideas.
    Good luck to ya
