You do a few days orientation, then go out with an instructor for a few weeks (how long depends on when the instructor feels you can pass the tests), go back to Springfield n test out. After you have your CDL you go out with a trainer for 30,000 miles MINIMUM. If your trainer feels you can run a truck by yourself, you go back n pick up your truck after completing upgrade tests. I started May 17th 2011, got my truck October 24th 2011. But I did 50,000 miles of TNT, as was planned out before I got on his truck, then 30 more days with a flatbed trainer.
