I have a wire permanently connected to that post that I use when I'm under the hood. I keep it coiled up until I need it. I run it below when I adjust the clutch. I use it to spin the motor if I need to hit the engine with starting fluid.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Just maybe you're right, Rideandrepair.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

It tells the the starter motor spins. Thats it. What kinda load will it take? Does the starter bendix work? Are your cables bad? You have thick oil in a worn out engine. With maybe a failed starter. Your asking questions but know all the answers.
Good luck. I wish you the best!Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
The only way that Trucks going to start, is pull start it. Or drain the Lucas. Could try renting a torpedo heater. Don’t melt the oil pan
jamespmack and Fieldrat Thank this. -

If you don't want to throw money at it, then you need to troubleshoot.
Do you have a meter? Put it on batteries and crank. Then put it on starter and crank. That'll give you your answer if its the batteries, cable, or starter.
Good luck.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
It's free to remove starter and bench test. Its free to ohm out cables, its free to do a starter draw test. I didn't say buy anything. I said test!Rideandrepair and Fieldrat Thank this. -
I think I'll drain the Lucas. It's time for an oil change anyway.
When the man gets out of quarantine and opens his shop again, I'll get the starter tested. It's been working for a long time. Maybe I have a combination of problems.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
How do I bench test the starter?
