IT was an inframe. did not do anything in gear train area. looked great from what he could see. after looking at the liners & seeing metal scraped off near the top of a few. it appeared as if that was where the metal was coming from. my bull gear & bearing may well be o.k. it may be something else in that area. but will have it all looked at real close & replace all that should be replaced regardless of looks. I could of told him to replace all the gear train components, but like I say after us seeing the liners, we thought we had the problem solved. I had the chance to buy a bull gear & bearing new on e-bay a few weeks ago. I asked the seller if it was for a 11.1 or a 12.7. he did not know, but it was for a ser 60. it sold one day later for $300.00 I wish I would of just bought it & even if it was not for my 11.1 I could of traded it to my mechanic for the 11.1 perhaps. if I can get my bull gear replaced for around $2500 I would be happy. someone in my area said he had a used bull gear put in cost him almost $4 grand.

did they happen to do a step up overhaul? step 2 and step 3 overhaul warranties will cover the bull gear. whats your engine serial number? if they did a step up overhaul it will be in detroits warranty system.

My 12.7 had the a/c bracket issue and eventually the holes thru the bull gear cover wore out so much I could fit a 7/16 bolt thru it!!! I had metal shaving down in the bottom of the cover, but the bull gears were fine. I removed the front cover and cleaned it out, and put the 7/16 bolts back in and bought a bracket for it off ebay and NEVER had the problem again. It was the best $90 I ever spent.....#### york/detroit designers LOL

Ahhh.. I saw the special bracket on e-bay & thought I know the detroits had problems with the alternator bracket & throwing belts, but never heard of the a/c bracket giving any problems, though there must be for someone to fabricate a solution for it. sooo are you saying the metal I am finding could be what you found? I never looked at my a/c bracket to even know wherew it bolts to. mine is a 11.1, but it is also a coe intl. I wonder if my bracket or anything is bolted to my bull gear cover? thanls for the tip, have to put 4 rear shocks on tomorrow will have a look.

Yep, there is a good chance that might be a problem for ya. They vibrate so badly that the bracket that hold the york compressor eventually wears thru the bolts that go thru the bull gear cover holding it in place. Mine did that 3 times all with grade 8 bolts, and the last time i caught it just before the hole #### a/c pump fell into the fan :biggrin_2551:

I ordered the bracket and put it on, and never had a bolt go bad again.

I am currently selling Detroit Series 60 Bull Gears for $399. They are part number R8929168. They are New Reman Bull Gears from RELIABILT that are factory packaged! This part retails at your local dealer for over $1,100 plus tax (with a core).

They are posted on ebay, and the item number is 280666102164.

My truck engine number is 06R0486724. Can I have Bull gear issue?

How to be sure? Remove timing cover and accesory gear?

Any noise before bullgear damage anything else?

Well, I know one thing. When I see too many cranckshaft position sensor fault codes mechanics say they found bullgear bad....
