Detroit rebuilt a 12.7 series 60 roughly 200k miles ago. Lately it's been using about 3 gallons every 2,000 miles. There is no loss of power, runs great. No smoke from the exhaust. The crankcase breather puts out a heavy, steady stream of air/smoke. All the guages are within normal operating conditions. Any help I appreciate.

Start with obvious things- Crawl Under- Rear of oil Pan- Check for oily mess by pan/bell housing- Could be mechanic got lazy with end cap and destroyed main seal
Also,When you say crankcasae smoke, Thats sometimes an indication of a failed water pump, I dont know if 12.7's weep internally or not, But coolant comes in pushes oil out blowbyRideandrepair Thanks this. -
my 12.7 was using a lot of oil come to find out it was a bad air compressor blowing oil in the air tanks
MartinFromBC, Intothesunset and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Bad compressor or turbo can cause excessive blow by.

Check coolant for oil yet? Oil cooler?

Maybe rings are not seated yet, or bad rings?
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
