have a series 60 that shuts down and doesn't throw any codes or alarms going off. checked dddl and no codes are present or inactive in the system. truck shuts down when loaded only but bob tailing it can drive around all day with out shutting down.

My grandpa had a mule like that! He'd run all over the pasture just fine but hook him to the plow and he'd just stand there! I know this didn't help your problem but I couldn't resist!

I know it sounds silly, but have you checked the coolant level? Mine did that to me. Drove me nuts until I figured out that the coolant level was just close enough to the sensor to start it, but the truck wouldn't stay running.

I have always found that if one shuts off with no codes it is wiring issue to ECM or the ECM itself. Start in the batter box with the small wires with fuses and make sure everything is good there then work for forward. What kind of truck is this?

    Intothesunset and BoxCarKidd Thank this.

Always loaded never empty? Ground issue between the engine and frame - battery? Put a small ground wire between the battery and engine or transmission. Does it stop shutting off?

A loaded truck build more heat than a bobtail.
I believe when the thermostat opens on said truck the reservoir may get empty causing truck to shut down? Or an air pocket?

Is the engine a DDEC 5 ecm 2004-2008?
Is the truck making a constant alarm ?
