Seriously though, it 8s going to be really hard to find a company that does not use brokers. Most freight that the larger companies have is running for cheap. If you are looking to run the spot markets you are going to have to deal with brokers. Other than that you may need to run specialized, toothpicks or chips, dumps, something like.

That is just what I have noticed. I am in no way an expert. Hell I am probably 100 percent wrong. I usually am. Get a good sample of answers and base your decision off that

Yeah - brokers are vampires, in my mind. I HATE it when somebody manages to live off of me!

Yeah, I know they have to haul broker freight when there is nothing else. Still, there are places that haul mostly their own freight.

I broker and drive, why not go get your own loads?. If you are getting loads from a broker aren't you living off them?
I understand what you are saying but that's the way the world turns. Vampires? hardly, without the load from the broker you would likely be sitting somewhere making zero $

I hear about people getting their own loads but have no idea how to do it. What do you do, just knock on whirlpools door and say do you have a load? Who do you ask to speak to? This is something I want to try but just don't know what the process is.

Developing your own customers is the way to go. But... if it was easy then everyone would do it, and then THOSE rates would be in the toilet.

How fast do you have to run to escape from an attacking bear?
    Faster than your friends.

I'd suggest calling around to local smaller trucking companies or places with loading docks, drop off a business card and a copy of your safer-sys print out. Shake some hands, make some friends. If you ever need.... and don't want to pay extra to go through a broker... or I know you already have your own trucks but if you get busy and need extra capacity...

Most people are afraid to do that sort of thing.

    Beethoven Thanks this.

Why would any company lease equipment that old for anything less than bargain basement contract rates? My tractor is the same age, but I leased onto this carrier when it was only 3 years old.
Try power only. That end of the business will take equipment like that. Drop and hook, no loading or unloading.
